His agent says he could be ready by August. I think it's good for any team to take fliers on veteran starters as long as they earn their playing time. Especially this late in the season.

What could Detroit possibly have to lose?

What could Detroit possibly have to lose?On the plus side, his long fly balls are far more likely to stay in Comerica than they would any other park. They just can't use him on the road.

Actually, I think we should be taking an interest in Freddy also. If we could work it similar to the Louiza situation, why not?

Garcia coming back makes even less sense than Loaiza.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't Freddy been a great road pitcher in his career?

I'm sure KW wouldn't mind Freddy coming back but I doubt that he is going to take the league minimum like Loaiza did.

I'm strictly thinking injury insurance. I'm a bit nervous about our options if a starter goes down. Like I said, if we can try it low-risk and it turns out he can't pitch, what's the harm?

He has to prove he can top 85 MPH before he gets a job anywhere.

I think he's toast. Too much mileage on that arm.

I hope he can come back and do well, Garcia was always one of my favorites.

I say he ends up with the Yankees as a stopgap in their rotation. But that's just me.

That makes sense with Wang being out until September. Then again I'm sure David Wells has been placing calls to the Yanks right about now.
