Come on, Onda, you know what that means!

He decided to "cinch it tight" and "strap it down." He decided to "man up" or "kick it up a notch."

I think Bobby is a great closer but like many closers, sometimes has brain farts or lapses in concentration. I think he tends to do better as the pressure builds.

Cool to be at work a couple blocks east of the Cell, listening to the game on the radio and hearing the fireworks after Swisher goes deep twice, Paulie adds one and the Sox sweep Minnesota and widen their lead in the AL Central.

Maybe it's still too early in the season, but it would be awesome to say "G'night, Gardy!"

Fire Greg Walker!

Seriously, we might have broke those pesky Twins with this sweep. I know it's early but that had to be demoralizing. They got their brains beat in for the most part, then have a chance to salvage the last game with runners on 1st and 3rd and no outs, with their two studs coming up and can't get anything done. Very enjoyable win for this Sox fan.

I don't think it matters personally. You look at the division right now:
Minnesota no starting pitching, no relief pitching= no chnace.
Cleveland- No Bullpen surprising struggling offense.
Detroit- No pitching.
KC- Self-explanatory.

TDog

The Sox missed more opportunities than the Twins did. The Sox twice had the bases loaded with one out and couldn't score any of the runners. The Twins had second and third with one out and didn't score. If it hadn't been the ninth when scoring the sixth run would have been meaningless, the Twins would have scored a run on the doubleplay after getting runners on first and third.

The most impressive thing about this game was that the Sox game from behind in the sixth and seventh. Danks, again, didn't pitch well against the Twins, but the well-rested bullpen came through. Maybe Jenks had too much rest.

When the Sox can score seven while missing opportunities, the offense seems to be running well in any case. The Sox may have caught the Twins at a good time. The Twins definitely caught the Sox a bad time from their perspective. The Twins finished the season in Chicago with a 2-7 record. The last seven games will be in the Metrodome where he Sox need to win them all to go 7-2 in Minneapolis as well. I'm hoping the Twins aren't in the race, but they could still do damage against the Sox in those seven games. Danks probably has two more starts against the Twins, who have proved to be his nemesis this season.

Beating the second-place Twins four straight after beating the second-place Indians three straight in the last homestand should get the Sox some national attention. It's only June, but suddenly a team that couldn't hit a lick is dominant at the plate and in the field and has a 6.5 game lead, with the second-place team being another expected also-ran.

This could be a very special season.

I had projected a 17-10 June based on how we were doing at home and in our division. So far we are 7-1.

I'd like to think we can go 10-5 in interleague play; if so, then we'd likely win 19 or 20 games in June. That would be simply amazing and would likely cause three of the other four teams in our division to write off the season.

I have a bad feeling about how our division is going to do in interleague play. This will cause more folks to doubt the Sox, but that doesn't really matter; October matters.

My point is you can't be complaining about how bad the ump is calling balls and strikes and then get a break for messing up on HR calls. If his eyesight is bad for HR calls, its also bad for ball and strike calls.

It's been 31 years since the Sox swept a four game series at home against the Twins. I was at that Sunday DH back in June of 77 when the Sox swept the Twins to move into first place.

I still remember Lerrin LaGrow on the mound striking out the last batter (Larry Hisle?) to end the game and get the sweep. The crowd starting shouting in unison "we're number 1!" over and over and over. It was very sweet.

The Sox have now won 23 of their last 33 games. Hope they can keep it going.

The nice thing about putting some distance between themselves and the Twins is the rest of this year's series, I think, is ALL played in Minnesota including three late season games. You don't want to be in a position where you have to go to the Metrodome and HAVE to win.

By the way the Sox have now had four games this season where they trailed in the 7th inning or later and came back to win....ironically they wound up getting the lead back in the 7th inning of EVERY ONE of those four games!

Great job, great series...keep it going.

It's baseball. Bad calls happen. And it was very close and may have actually been a strike, so it wasn't some horribly obvious blown call. Yet some 4 or 5 innings later, Hawk is still going on about it. It's pretty sad what has become of him as of late. But I digress. Great win by the Sox.

I have no idea whether he bitched the entire game or not. By the end of the fourth inning, I had heard enough. We were only down 3-2, for crying out loud, and he was acting like the umpire had ruined the entire game for the Sox.

Fortunately, our players were undeterred by a couple crappy calls. Lo and behold, they rallied and won the game.

Yep. I muted for a while, but had the volume back on in the 7th or 8th and he was still talking about it. It saddens me b/c Hawk does a nice job with big moments in a ballgame, but his "back and forth" with DJ and his bitching has taken an absolute ton away from the broadcast. I will be moving toward the radio on and TV off b/c while Farmer is awful, Steve Stone actually provides excellent insight into the game.

Correct, he is going to suck for years more.
I've just accepted that there will be times when I mute the game and times when I'll listen. He isn't going away any time soon, which is a shame, but I'll live.

The TV, even in HD is now in sync with the radio. When I discovered this, I have yet to listen to Hawk all season. The guy's act is beyond old, and he's an embarassment to listen to most of the time (well, how about all of the time). It's been a wonderful experience. Oh yeah, these long winning streaks are nice, too. :D: When the announcer is the biggest complaint you have of the team, it's a good thing!

Yeah, I'm starting to get that feeling too! But I won't be sure until we beat the Red Sox, the defending champs.

I remember in 2005, people said that we have to beat the "Beasts of the East", Yanks/Red Sox, to really prove ourself. LET'S DO IT!!!

I only find out what an cry baby idiot he is by looking at the game day thread, I listen to the radio broadcast and watch a muted TV. It does annoy me how people make excuses for his behavior, this isn't an isolated incident , it has been going on for years.

Oh he did. The Sox are on a 7-game winning streak, playing as well as they've played all year, and Hawk spent the majority of the game bitching about the umpire.:rolleyes:

That one goes way back to Bible times. Girding up one's loins meant to tuck your robe up into your belt, thereby making it easier to run and thereby also probably making it easier to see your genitals.

Well, let's keep it rolling in Detroit! I'd really like to see us build a ten game lead in the central. If we head into July with a ten game lead, I think, and I don't want to jinx it, but I think we're playoff bound. We're certainly in damn good shape to say the very least.

All the way- No one touches us-No one.
its 05 all again my friends.
now who is with me?
I think it's time for Da Rev to TESTIFY more!!!

Nice to see the offense come through and pick up Danks. Well done, boys!

I listened to the last 2 innings on the car radio while driving home from work. As I hit my 31st Street exit from the Dan Ryan, the fireworks went off signifying victory. I smiled and pumped my fist.

This series couldn't have been ANY better!

This game was aestethically displeasing. We made a bunch of small mistakes that usually get us beat by the Twins, but this time we showed some testicular fortitude (to go with the girded loins motif...how hoosiers the movie) and got the job done.

I propose we rename this the "We failed to do all the little things it takes to win, yet still failed lose and swept the twinkies so you can bite me thread"

Lets neuter and spay some motor city kitty now!

I don't think it matters personally. You look at the division right now:
Minnesota no starting pitching, no relief pitching= no chnace.
Cleveland- No Bullpen surprising struggling offense.
Detroit- No pitching.
KC- Self-explanatory.Things look rosy for the Sox, but there is a long way to go in the season. At the end of the day on June 9, 2005, the Sox were up 5.5 on the second place Twins and 11.5 on the Indians. We are now 6.5 up on the Twins and 8.5 on Cleveland. Minnesota has lots of crappy player, but somehow, you can never count them out. The Indians have a good rotation, and lots of under-performing offensive talent. The Tigers have a whole lot of under-performing offensive talent, but no pitching whatsoever. Things change, and any of those teams can catch fire.

Baseball is a game. Don't count the days towards the playoffs. Just enjoy the game. Enjoy days like today.

Can you imagine this board!!! :o: Of course I am sure if you look back at the windsock's columns he must have chastized KW for not locking up one of these guys.

I do think Cabrera will be back--and in a big way because he is so young-- but the word is he is out of shape and did nothing in the off-season. Willis might be through.

Lip

Thanks for your historical perspective Lip! Lerrin LaGrow, now there is a name from my childhood. I remember 1977 like it was yesterday. And I am still dancing after the Sox swept the Twins in this recent four game series! :bandance:As you stated, keep it going!
