A caller to The Score this morning suggested the series of Sox commercials are to blame for the teams' woes, citing that many of the scuffling players are in them. It was meant in jest (or at least I think it was) but it is an interesting coincidence.

More like Mike North-ish. That guy would blame "da Sox hittin' woes iz on da fact dat dey are too busy makin' commericals, being 'grindy."

Then he would immediately go to having Nick Swisher on at 7 am after flying back into town.......

What kind of an idea is that? Should BP come up with a new stat factoring a player's performance on the field based on the number of commercials they make?

It's a bit of a silly idea, but as someone who is highly supersticious, I noticed it myself. The guys who are supposed to be our stars aren't doing a whole lot right now.

Like Ozzie doing Chevy commercials last year?

At the United Center before Game 4 of the 2005 World Series, they ran a bunch of over-the-top "Grinder Rule" ads, including one that consisted of Hulk Hogan saying "Grinder Rule #1: What are YOU going to do, when the Chicago White Sox run all over you!".

If that didn't jinx us, Nick Swisher holding a sign isn't going to jinx us.

I thought that was '06? Though he had those AWFUL commericials on the radio last year about how the bullpen was admiring the '07 Chevy Tahoe...maybe they woulda done better if it was a Ford F-150.

It was '06. And maybe the bullpen could've done better last year if they weren't so focused on admiring a car.

Still one of my favorite Ozzie quotes: "Equinox, looks good and gets the job done. Sound like anybody you know?"

Player portions of the commercials were shot two months ago in ST, if then. Buehrle's commercial is the only one of the group so far that doesn't involve the player holding a sign to communicate with the fans and seems like it's real game footage. Who knows, I could be wrong. A commercial with AJ should be coming out soon.

They should recut the spots with certain players forced to hold up signs saying something like, "Do you believe how much I suck?" or "I'm so bad, it's practically like stealing money."

The worm is the best thing Swisher has done since April.

This looks like the appropriate forum for discussions on jinxes and curses.

Good thing there wasn't a billy goat in those commercials...

Going by the responses here, I must have been the only one of us who heard the call. (it was between 9 and 9:30 Saturday morning) To clarify I thought the guys was kidding.

PK: "I don't walk. I trot. Sometimes. Usually I just ground out to short."

Swisher: "I'm wacky! Yay! Walks are better than hits, right? Dude!"

Fan holding bulls-eye sign: "Thome Hit It Here"
Thome: "I can't."

Fan holding sign: "My fantasy team needs you."
Buehrle: "Can we trade some of these guys to your fantasy team?"

Please start hitting. Please?
