I definitely did a huge fist pump when I saw Paulie hit that homer. It was a good sign that he's recovering and hopefully he'll break out soon. I mean just look at O-cab, he managed to turn his numers around in a couple of games.

Got it in under 3hrs. Not bad. I thought this game would be a lot tougher, and it was for 5 innings. Glad to see PK finally get a homer and Thome (in the domey) with 2 hits.

Can't say enough about Danks.

Great game. My only concern is Danks only going 6. The strikeouts are great, but he needs to throw less pitches (and I am not naive enough to think he could easily get guys out with 1 pitch, but decides to throw 3 to get the K). I hate seeing a pitcher have to leave the game after 5 or 6 because he is over 100 pitches. Same thing happened last weekend, where John had a nice outing, but left after 5. That reminds me of an "epic" game in late 2006 against the Yankees where Vazquez threw something like 120 pitches through 5 innings.

Let's get them tomorrow and make this a successful road trip.:bandance:

Before this game, the Rays were a remarkable 17-2 at home in their last 19 games in Tampa. This is a real quality win and we didn't have to deploy Scott or Bobby to get it.

I was really impressed how Danks dug in everytime the Rays were threatening. Hopefully, Jose will be dealing tommorow.

I know what your saying but at least we have the bullpen to support the effort. Last year Ozzie would have been tempted, if not forced, to leave him in there for one more inning. Over the course of the year those extra innings would wear down the starters.

Hawk and DJ can't understand why no fans are showing up in Tampa, but it's obviously because of that dude hitting the cowbell all night.

If we can play with the Rays, we can play with anyone. I never expected to say that.

Nice for Jenks and Linebrink to have the night off. Good to see Konerko break out a bit, if only so we won't have to hear Harrelson keep saying, "Paulie's really close." He and Thome both drove in a run. Crede, too. Life is good. :gulp:

This is a textbook example of how you win games.

Good... very good pitching, and enough offense to take some of the load off them. Eleven hits is very encouraging.

Good to see Paulie light it up, hopefully he's on it now. Thome hitting tonight.

Pitching....what is there to say....it continues to speak for itself.

Crede looks too laid back when he makes these errors. That throw looked like one of those Uribe side arm error throws. Come on Joe, tighten it up.

The team looked great tonight.

Let's sweep.

I really hope the Royals can steal a game or two from the Indians this weekend. It's amazing how hard and fast they've fallen since they were 21-22, having taken two of three from the Marlins. I don't want to face them after having them lose 14 in a row because law of averages suggests they would find a way to win one against us, especially with a Greinke start in the series.

The Law of Averages supports that he SHOULD get one soon! Hopefully he gets it in his next couple of starts. It would be a big help as he has been struggling to catch the same wind the other 4 starters have. Having all 5 starters clicking on all cylinders would make this team even harder to beat.

I don't disagree that we have not hit as well as we would have liked...but if the goal of offense is to score runs, not to get hits or get on base, which it is, we are 6th in the AL in runs scored. That's not TERRIBLE.

I just can't blame Walker alone for what we have seen and I don't see what firing him after 1/3 of the season is going to do.

The next 1/3 of the season could easily be much better offensively - right? The last 11 games we have averaged 4.5 runs. Guys are coming around. OC is pretty hot right now.

Firing Walker may make people feel better - but it also has a chance of having no impact or even an adverse impact on the team.

I wonder what the record is. Anybody know?

Not positive, but I found this article (http://www.mlb.com/content/printer_friendly/sd/y2008/m02/d05/c2365132.jsp) from spring training that mentions that last year the Padres bullpen started the season with a 29 inning scoreless streak which set a ML record (breaking a record held by the '55 Sox). The Sox bullpen hasn't given up an earned run in 29 innings, but it did give up 1 unearned run in that span.

Pear-Zin-Ski

Wow...The bullpen hasn't allowed a run in 27 straight innings!?!?!

That's impressive.

You really can't say enough about how well the team is pitching.

The bullpen has given up no earned runs in that span. There was at least one unearned run that Wasserman allowed in three innings in the loss to Cleveland this week.

The Sox bullpen was last scored upon with earned runs in the Sunday win in San Francisco, quite the lovely day to sit in the sun by the Bay. Wasserman got hammered while he was in there. Thornton came in and gave up hits on his first two pitches to tie the game and settled down to retire the side. Then Dotel walked three hitters and Masset came in to retire the side with three ground balls, not surrendering the lead when he allowed two inherited runners to score.

Before that, you have to go to the last loss before the winning streak when the Sox bullpen lost the game. The bullpen gave up 2 late runs in the 2-0 loss. That is a pretty good run.

TomBradley72
05-30-2008, 04:44 AM
Thornton/Dotel/Logan shut down the team with the best record in baseball.

Masset's ERA is in the low 3's. Jenks and Linebrink under 2.00. We have a very good bullpen.:gulp:
