I hope he doesn't make the team and has to suffer the indignity of retiring because no one wanted him. A fitting end for someone who cheated his way to stardom.

I'm sure he'll make the team. After all he's hanging out with the Dominican President these days. I'm sure they'll make a spot for him.

Wonderful. We get to see that ridiculous hop one last time.

Ah, but does the president of the DR have a say-so in this matter?

Anyone else praying for a failed drug test?

Funny Mark Giangreco quote on the news tonight: "Sammy: No one cares."

The Dominican Republic is home to dozens of extremely talented ballplayers at the MLB level alone. If the team selection process is fair, Sammy is going to have a tough time making it.

We said this in 2002 when Cubbie Nation was still praising him as their lord.

It's funny that he's still so arrogant that he pretends that it's HIS choice as to when he retires! Just like he pretends that the only "supplements" he took were Flinstones Vitamins.

I am surprised he was able to speak without a translator. Every time English comes out of this guys mouth now, all I can think of is him at Congress, when all of a sudden he couldn't speak English anymore.

Typical attention whore move. Retire while the "spotlight" is on - if you can call the WBC the spotlight that is. Maybe his last AB should be against Clemens, after Favre throws out the first pitch. Make it a big drama queen event.

I would love nothing more than at his first at bat in the World Baseball thing that Solomon Torres drills him in the head again.

In the end, Sosa was very bad for the game of baseball. Take a look at Alexi Ramirez, that's what Sosa looked like when he was on the Sox.

I'm not actually advocating the move, but when you look at Sosa's numbers last year against LHP, (328/410/613/1024) if they could somehow clone a non-douchebag version of him, it would make a pretty nice DH platoon with Thome.

Did anyone notify Sosa that you need to have a job to retire from first?
