Can't say I'm terribly shocked.

The starting line would be:

1B - Youkilis
2B - Pedroia
3B - A-Rod
SS - Jeter
C - Varitek
DH - Big Papi
OF - Man-Ram, Ichiro, Vlad

The Sox have 3 players in the top-5 of their respective positons; Jim Thome is 3rd amongst DHs, about 400,000 votes behind Ortiz, Joe Crede is 4th amongst 3rd basemen, just under 300,000 votes behind A-Rod, and Orlando Cabrera is 5th amongst shortstops, about 450,000 votes behind Jeter.

That is not going to last. If Francona starts 7 of his players in the game, it's an outrage.

Only Ortiz, Ramirez, and Youkilis deserve their spots.

Why would that be Francona's fault? He doesn't get to pick the starting lineup.

If you look at some of the AL positions, it's really hard to find good players to choose. That's why this is not surprising to me.

IMO, it'd be hilarious to see 5+ Red Sox All-Star starters (plus the coaching staff) at Yankee Stadium's 'last hoorah'.

Julio Lugo has votes. He's the worst-fielding SS in all of baseball and he actually has votes. He even has enough votes to be in 4th place. Wow.

AJ not even in the top 5 for Cs is ridiculous as well. Ivan Rodriguez's name should be removed from all ballots...it's the only way to get the idiots to stop voting for him.

J.D. Drew and Coco Crisp have more votes than B.J. Upton and Carl Crawford. Seriously? I mean, SERIOUSLY?

True. I haven't been following the stats leaders much this year, but I do have trouble figuring out who to vote for on the AL ballot. However, I know that maybe only half of those Red Sox deserve to be All-Stars.

You're wrong. As a member of Red Sox Nation - we all are, remember - we're required to have an All-Star lineup of 9 Sawx. No other player is a good, exciting or has as much pwnage as our Sawx.

Its a popularity contest now more than anything. Much like American Idol.

Seven? I count five. Two Yankees, a Mariner, and an Angel.

I know. Still doesn't add up to 7.

Well, as the Queen of Math, I'd have to say that the original count of five is the most accurate! We all know that Francona will have no choice but to pick the great Gavin Floyd to start the game.

I got another 75 in for Quentin today. I'm surprised he hasn't cracked the top 10 yet.

Don't forget that Manny will decide not to play like he does every year.

Who cares, it's a meaningless exhibition. Not like it decides anything important.

The #1 reason fan voting is a joke.

how else do you suggest they appoint all-stars?

Player voting?

Manager voting? Because we've seen how well that works for the gold glove.

I can guarantee you that with player voting, the results wouldn't be all that different than with fan voting

Only doodz with blogs should be allowed to vote.

There may not be any stars starting, and we may see lots of "two month wonders" but at least we will know that players with the highest VORP, WARP3, EQA, and FRAA will be starting the all-star game

and that's what the all-star game is all about, right?
