Tom Hamilton was on ESPN 1000 before the game and said that the Indians were close to acquiring Quentin multiple times during the offseason from the D-backs.

That's as far as he went with it so I don't know who they would have given up, but I thought I'd share.

It just shows that the Sox have a better GM.

Shapiro has done a nice job there - as did Hart before him.

Not knowing the details of the Tribe/D-Backs trade, it is hard to say that. The Tribe might not have had what Arizona needed at the end of the day.

[some wsi dude obsessed with ex-white sox prospects] Well I wish they would have gotten him so that we could have still had Carter [/jeremybmunch]

It was Cliff Lee the Tribe were going to give up for. Fortunately, that trade didn't go through. For the White Sox and the NL. Can you imagine the sick rotation the D-Backs would have if they had Lee?

But would the D'Backs have packaged Lee in the Haren deal like they did Carter? Or would they have been content with Lee and not gone after Haren?

That trade has worked out well for both teams.

I can't imagine Lee would have gone in the deal. As low as his value was last season, a MLB pitcher >>> A-level first baseman.

I know. I guess I'm still a little miffed that Shapiro was voted executive of the year in 2005 over KW.

That's funny, I'm pretty sure all along I'd been saying we shouldn't have acquired Swisher BECAUSE Quentin played his position and would be a better player...
