Bottom 17, still going. Edit: Now into the 18th.

Patterson is 0-8. Aaron Harang has already went 4 innings (and had nine strikeouts), and now Volquez is in there.

This game is Dusty's dream. A chance to screw up several of his pitchers' arms in one game. Volquez just pitched Friday and was very good, as he has been all year. Let's see how long Dusty tries to make him go on one day of rest.

They are in the 18th now. Will the Sox and Angels finish before the Padres and Reds?

Adrian Gonzalez just blasted one to dead center.

The funny thing is that 3-HR in this short 1 2/3 innings appearance represents the most runs Volquez has given up in an outing this season.

Yet all 3 of those runs were unearned cause of the error made by the first basemen

I can't believe 7 homeruns hit at Petco. I guess technically it was over the course of two normal-length games, but still.

I'm beginning to wonder how Dusty ever got praise as a great manager. The way he sank Prior's career and sidetracked Wood should be proof enough, but now he's riding Volquez like a rented mule. Pitchers in their early twenties shouldn't throw 110-120 pitches every time out and then pitch in relief on a days' rest. Has he got James Andrews on speed dial?
