Not to jump the gun here or anything, but does anyone know the last time the Sox won 10 in a row?

Yes, I have in fact used the search function, but typing in things like "10 game", "winning streak", and "10 game winning streak" don't really do the job.

Thanks

That ten game win streak was remarkable because the team was so bad in 1976. Paul Richards himself said the winning streak was a mirage, and he was the field manager!

This was the highlight of the streak. I actually have about fifteen minutes of audio from this game in my library.

May 26, 1976 - Newly acquired pitcher Ken Brett nearly throws a perfect game and then a no hitter, only to lose it on a controversial ruling by the official scorer. In a game in Anaheim, Brett had a perfect game for 7 2/3 rd’s innings before walking Leroy Stanton. Then with two out in the 9th inning of a scoreless game, Jerry Remy hit a ground ball that Sox 3rd baseman George Orta butchered, with the ball going under his glove. Official scorer Don Merry of the Long Beach Independent Telegram ruled it a hit. Other writers disagreed with the decision, the Sox players were incensed and announcer Harry Caray went crazy on air but the decision stood. Former Sox player Bill Melton would get a ‘clean’ single with one gone in the 10th inning ending the controversy. The Sox would finally win it 1 - 0 in eleven innings on a single by Bucky Dent. It was their 10th straight victory!

I believe the team record is 14 in 1951.

That 14 game winning streak is even more impressive when you consider that 12 of them came on the road (if memory serves).

Of all Sox teams, that would be one of the last you'd ever expect to have compiled 10 wins in row.

If the Sox win 10 in a row, expect the obligatory Bob Vanderberg garbage
gnashing his teeth about how the 1976 Sox won 10 in a row and went on
to finish 64-97.

In retrospect, yes. At the time, the season was still young. Wilbur Wood's career was effectively ended with a Ron LeFlore line drive on May 9, but the Sox pitching looked solid for awhile. Paul Richards was going with a five-man rotation when most teams were going with four-man rotations. Early on, future Hall of Famer Rich Gossage and future Cy Young Award winner Pete Vuckovich were joined by George Brett's little brother Ken and hard-throwers Bart Johnson and Jesse Jefferson. (That was the season when started against Dennis Eckersley and won the game 4-1.) Terry Forster and Francisco Barrios got double-digit starts. The Sox ended up with 13 pitchers starting games, which isn't good.

Not long after the winning streak, AL hitters caught up to Sox pitchers, and Sox hitters never caught up to anything.

I thought they won 10 in a row one year in the '80's where wimpy had to shave his head because of it? I'm I forgetting something?

Was it in 05, that Hawk said he would shave his head if the Sox won X number of games in a row, they fell short of it but I think Buehrle grabbed him and shaved his head anyway.

According to this article (scroll down to near the bottom), Swisher and Dave Kaplan of Chicago Tribune Live will both dye their hair pink if the win streak gets to 10 games!

I believe it was 2003. Hawk said he would shave his head if the Sox won 10 in a row. The streak ended at 8, but Buehrle still shaved Hawk's head.

Paciorek also had his head shaved after a winning streak, I think it was in the late 80's.

Yes, Lip, as usual you were correct! Here are the details from my this date blog

JULY 24TH
1989: Tom Paciorek made good on a bet and had his head shaved before the White Sox 5-4 win vs. Seattle before 11,430 at Comiskey Park. Paciorek said earlier in the year he would get his head shaved if the Sox won nine in a row, which they did. Carlton Fisk won the game in the ninth by lining a two-strike pitch to right field to drive in the winning run.
