Hands down, undoubtedly the best pitcher of all time.

He was the best in baseball from 1997 to 2003 no doubt about it.

He said this would probably be his last contract at the time.

Changing his mind or bad reporting by the Daily News?

I was refering to when he first signed the contract in late 04, although I wish I knew what article it was.

Yep, nobody better.

Koufax was better over a longer timespan. Similar build with incredible stuff.

162 game averages

Koufax: 15-8, 78 BB, 229 K, 2.76 ERA, 131 ERA+, 1.106 WHIP
Martinez: 17-7, 58 BB, 248 K, 2.81 ERA, 160 ERA+, 1.031 WHIP

Hard for me to lean either way, but Pedro has less walks, more Ks and pitched in a much harder era as evidenced by having the best ERA+ in history.

The stats are definitely close, as I figured. I picked Koufax for the durability. Then again, he quit while he still had good health, while Pedro hasn't aged as well.
