Scott Merkin weighs in on this. I have to agree with him, especially after that diving catch he made this weekend. Who still has doubts about his fielding?

Did you see him go after that ball down the line today that tied the game? Prince Fielder or Paul Konerko playing RF could have gotten to that ball quicker. It should be a moot point though: hopefully he'll be our DH in '09 if he isn't traded.

Well, Dye admits that he's not as quick out there...which is where the doubts are coming from. It's not that he's not giving the effort, he's just getting slow.

Exactly, it's nothing against him, he's much slower than previous years and he's on his way to becoming a DH in the next few years no doubt.

JD hasn't really hurt us a lot this year, but he's not a very good defensive outfielder. Once Thome leaves at the end of hte year JD should be our DH. It's painful to watch him out there.

He'd be fine in left, I don't get why Quentin isn't in right.

Please do not use my name in vain.

JD isn't the athlete he used to be. But his arm is still good and he is (usually) a smart OF.

I'll take his hitting and suffer throuigh an occasionally misplayed ball or a ball he can't get to.

I do. Just because he makes a couple nice plays doesn't mean that he hasn't lost 2 or 3 steps.

He also seems to look lost at the plate when we have people on base but then seems to get his hits when the sacks are empty. I would really prefer that he and Thome not be back next year. PK as DH, because we can't trade him and Swish at 1st.
