George Vecsey also chimed in on this story in the New York Times.

Saw this on ESPN yesterday, too... truly a great story.

Long story short, (spoiler alert, highlight to read):

Girl hits homerun in big game, but blows out her knee going back to touch first. This was her first career HR, and was so excited she missed first. As its a rule that teammates and coaches can't help her, it would have been ruled a 2 run single, not a 3 run HR. So, two infielders from the oposing team helped her limp around the bases, counting the hit as a HR. They ended up losing 7-1 or something, but at the time, that one run was a big deal.

Putting people above winning. What a novel concept. :teardrop:

Unbelievable story. Just when you think you've heard everything in sports, something like this happens. I applaud the opposing team.
