The all-star ballots were released today. All the Sox regular position players were listed, with the exception of Quentin. Instead, the three outfielders are Dye, Swisher, and Owens.

What gives? How far in advance do they prepare these things?

Someone tell Brooks to get started on the campaign to get Quentin voted in as the 30th man on the team.

If he keeps it up, he'll be the most deserving player on the team.

Hopefully Francona will be smart enough to take him to begin with. But let's not get ahead of ourselves...

Seeing as the all star game has become more of a popularity contest, I guess Owens is more popular than Q?

Doesn't this happen every year. I think they actually use the opening day roster that comes out a week before the season starts and not the roster in reality. I suppose the answer is to get rid of the fan vote altogether, or at least make it a write-in ballot only, so you actually have to KNOW who the players are and not just RECOGNIZE a popular name.

are you kidding me...this just proves that the fan vote is a joke...

I'm actually surprised it's not Alexei... I always thought they took each team's Opening Day line-up and went with that.

Get the Sox Army together to vote for Jerry and see what MLB does when he wins his way onto the team, yet is not a member of any 25 man roster in MLB.

Each team submits their best guess (before ST even opens when I knew about it) at to their regular guys for the season. A few years ago when Cintron came over in a late ST trade, his name was not on the AL ballot. ((Of course, Uribe being our starting shortstop at that time may have affected that.))

Actually, I would seriously like to see this happen. Would serve MLB right for allowing clueless fans to vote in the first place.

It wouldn't be any worse then the fans voting Mike Schmidt to start at 3rd base for the N.L. One problem though...he retired a month before the game!

Owens could still come up and have a big first half but unlikely that he could put up All Star numbers. But it is possible.

CQ is our best shot right now, tho.

I say we start a campaign for Jerry to have him be a starting outfielder.....that would be pretty crazy if he were to make the all star roster and not even play a inning in the majors yet.... we need a slogan

I notice that Big Frank could also get the nod as the DH from ... Toronto. :?:
They just start this too early.

Owens' picture is no longer up on the White Sox webpage with the other players on the ballot. It was when I first looked.

really bad for mlb.com as Carlos is tied for the lead in homers in AL in the top 10 in rbi. Top 5 in OBP and OPS I believe. I think he's up there in slugging too.

I put Carlos in as a write-in.

And I almost voted for Ross Gload at first base, but I pulled the trigger for Paulie.

My votes:

AL:

C: AJ
1B: PK
2B: Iwamura (TB)
SS: OC
3B: JC
OF: Swish, JD, TCQ
DH: out of 25 votes, 15 go to Thomas, 10 to Thome

NL:
C: McCann (ATL)
1B: Pujols
2B: Iguchi (for sentimental reasons)
SS: Hanley (the best damn shortstop in the league, IMHO)
3B: Wright
OF: Maybin, Willingham, Braun

I wrote in Maybin just out of Tigers spite.

This crappy excuse might work for the printed ballots, but not for the online ballot.

They've got the statistics right there...they can actually make it so that you have to play in a certain amount of games or have a certain number of ABs to even be on the ballot (which could eliminate some of this crap of spending half the year on the DL and still starting). You have the ability to have a dynamic ballot...why not take advantage of that?

Well this makes perfect sense. According to "NADA SURF", Owens deserves to be on the All-Star team.

You can never underestimate the power of the White Sox Army!!! Get Owens in and then vote for Quentin as the 26th-man.

Of all the positions to snub a sox player, you pick a struggling 2b. To each his own

I'm actually surprised it's not Alexei... I always thought they took each team's Opening Day line-up and went with that.

Back in the 80s, I think there were only ten spots for each position. Many Sox teams had several positions go without a candidate. Fletcher and Vance Law weren't even on the '83 ballot.
