According to Fox's graphic from the game today, Maggs's nickname is "The Big Tilde"?

He's never been called that in Detroit. Was he in Chicago?

No. That's something that started within the past year or so. I believe some bloggers helped make that nickname popular.

I've never heard that nickname before, I, along with other Sox fans I know just called him Mags.

Magglio's just the kind of name where no nickname is required. It even sounds like a nickname itself.

I found a blog called The Big Tilde.

Just "Maggs" to the best of my knowledge.

DJ esque i spretty harsh...O Do Tell? is probably the worst nickname I've heard in a while for Octvio Dotel.

All I know is when Mags was here I serached near and far for a replica jesery than had the tilde on the N but you had to get an authentic for that. Needless to say, I ended up with a Buerhle jersey and am happy for it.

That tilde saved me!

I'v never heard him called that. Samson, Maggs, all that...sure, but never "The Big Tilde". Us Tigers fans don't use it, atleast the ones I know...

Oh yes you do (http://thebigtilde.wordpress.com/).

Also, from his Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magglio_Ord%C3%B3%C3%B1ez) entry:

Others at Comerica, as well as some baseball bloggers, have taken to calling Magglio "The Big Tilde" in reference to the tilde (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tilde) seen on his uniform

Do they play O-E-O at Comerica Park?

The Big Tilde tonight butchered a simple fly in RF that became an RBI triple for Torii (The Big II) Hunter.

Not to hijack this thread, but Detroit's defense is atrocious, including Mags.

To make this thread more useful, can someone please confirm once and for all whether it's Mags or Maggs? This is important for about September 1, when I hope to start a thread about Mags/Maggs and the Tiggers having been mathematically eliminated, with the Indians soon to follow.

We've taken to calling him Slater in our game threads. When he does well we post this.

Well the big tilde is slightly better than Maggpipes (bagpipes from bagwell)that some announcer tried to get going. I think it may have been the most arrogant man in the world Brantley on BBTN.
