I met Lee at Tropicana Field a couple of years back while wearing my Sox jersey and asked him if he could repeat his "rant" for me from Wrigley. He just smiled at me and shrugged. That was such a classic that day at Wrigley..

Good stuff. My 8 team fantasy league's name is "Lee Elia Was Right".

I heard the unexpurgated version that journo Jim Armstrong had on tape at the '83 playoffs. Good times.

I have the rant on my iTunes...it's great to hear once in awhile.

From what I recall Grobber saying, he really didn't cause it. He just said something like "Tough game," and all hell broke loose. It's the classic rant in Chicago baseball history.

I have this as a wav on my computer. My question is about halfway through, there is a noise like a vacuum cleaner I start to hear. Is it or is it just a problem with my file? If it is a vacuum cleaner, that is awesome that the cleaning crew just came in to get the job done.

I just love the fact that it was only April, and Elia was already out on the ledge.

That vacuum cleaner type noise is in fact players HAIR DRYERS that they began using in the late 70's. All teams started using them, and all use them today, but you never hear them in clubhouse sound bites anymore since #1 boom boxes drown them out, and #2 the players use a different area off limits from reporters, to dry their hair-close to the showers. No interviews are done near hair dryers any more. Plus: that 1983 Cub Clubhouse was replaced by the current one in 1984.

I always thought the sound was a plane (Stuka) dive bombing or falling from the sky after being being shot down.---no teal

Is Les back on the radio?

Grobber is a die hard Cub fan but I always liked listening to what he had to.

I'll be a GUEST(only)on the Score Saturday Morning with Brian Paruch at about 9:20am to talk about you know what.
By my count, this will be the 4th time I'm on those air waves since leaving(at the request of the GM) that place in 2001.

Well, cancell that due to Friday night's rain out, their on the air schedule is changed. Oh well.

People also forget that Lee Elia was the back up shortstop for the 1966 White Sox. He barely hit .200, struck out a lot, and had hands like stone. I was a lad coming of age at that time, and I still remember the gosh awful plays he made.
