WSI News Index - WSI Spotlight
Breathe Deep!
Across Chicago snow is flying and so, too, are the rumors and speculation! Trades may or may not be imminent, SoxFest is near, and all WSI's Hal Vickery has to say is "Breathe Deep! He's a Sox Fan for life!
Swisher? A Good Deal!
If the '08 Sox needed switch-hittiing speed and power at the top of the order, they don't any longer! Kenny Williams engineers the type of trade that Sox Fans who've lived in Chicago longer than the Tribune's Phil Rogers know too well is unusual: the Sox are trying to win now, not accepting prospects in trade for today's proven talent. Was that ex-Sox Goose Gossage wearing a Yankee hat in last Sunday's Trib? Phil Rogers ought to look up that trade before he has another disparaging word to say about the Swisher trade! WSI's Hal Vickery offers a SOX FAN'S perspective, a refreshing change for Chicagoans no doubt!
A Lousy 2007
If the Sox 2007 regular season was filled with disappointment, the subsequent off-season hasn't been too much better! It has been a lousy year to be a Sox Fan and WSI's Hal Vickery wonders how much hope can any of us muster for 2008? Well, there is always hope... at least until the first pitch, right?
Kenny Finished?
GM Kenny Williams has his eyes now set on a Cuban exile as the next target of his quest for off-season improvement of the Sox roster. After several failed attempts to reach pay dirt elsewhere should Sox Fans get very excited about his latest effort? WSI's Hal Vickery braces for disappointment!
Entitled Sox Fans?
If the Sox win a world championship, how many more Sox world championships will it take before a certain type of Sox Fan would be happy? WSI's Jim Laffer is left to wonder how wild some Sox Fans might become if the Sox struck out during a real baseball season when they're this wild now over a failed week at baseball's winter meetings.
The search for missing pieces to the Sox' next championship roster continues with barely any progress at all from baseball's winter meetings. WSI's Hal Vickery is hardly in a panic but suggests another worthy cause for fretful Sox Fans to fill their time in a positive manner!
Gambler Kenny's Trade
Jon Garland is gone, Juan Uribe is still here, and the Sox have gotten older! Kenny Williams says he has a plan but WSI's Hal Vickery is wondering whether the Sox GM's latest gamble will be one Sox Fans look back upon fondly or with total regret!
Bonds, Bad & Good News?
Barry Bonds has finally been indicted for perjury over what he desperately wants baseball's fans to believe about him. This is certainly bad news for baseball, but WSI's Hal Vickery notes it might be good news, too. Perhaps it's the first bit of good news this festering steroids scandal has produced?
Uribe went and hurt me, baby!
If Kenny Williams has a big plan for this winter, let's hope what he still has left to reveal of his plan is more impressive than what we've been treated to so far. Juan Uribe is back but WSI's George Bova wants to know why did you have to be so cruel?
The Sox of Chicago
Sometimes it's not easy getting respect as a Sox Fan, but should it be so hard even inside our own city? Red or white, the color of Chicago's Sox is simple enough for anyone to know. WSI's Hal Vickery can't understand why it's so difficult for some in Chicago's media to get it right?
A unique and truly important anniversary in Chicago baseball history passed this week. WSI's George Bova has seen enough losing baseball in this city to know how unique and important this anniversary ought to be to every Chicagoan, but especially those who embrace winning! Two million Chicagoans lining the streets agree!
Rocks-on-the-brain Sox Fan?
The 2008 playoffs haven't featured much that a Sox Fan could hope to get excited about. Our own season doesn't start for another six months so WSI's Hal Vickery will watch this World Series choosing between the lesser of two evils to root for. Here's a hint: It won't be anyone from "the Hub" city!
Sox-on-the-Brain Cubs fans
Maybe it's okay to be a Sox Fan in Chicago, and maybe it's okay to write about the real glory and real championships the Sox have brought to the South Side at a website devoted to Sox Fans, but WSI's Hal Vickery has proof this entire notion just doesn't sit right with a certain type of Cubs fan. Predictably the media-inspired cliche claiming Cubs fans don't care about the Sox is proven false. And as for the silly myth that these are "the best fans in the world" check out this guy... Stay classy, dude! We're glad you're on THEIR side!
We got ours 2 years ago
The Sox season is over, but life for Sox Fans must continue regardless of the trials and tribulations that come our way. WSI's Hal Vickery is back and he's pleased to note that the glory of being a Sox Fan is forever to swat away those who would otherwise attempt to make our lives anything but that of a winner!
Here's to the '08 Sox!
It is too easy to mistaken everything that happened the last six months as a complete mess for Sox Fans to forget. The foundation for the '08 Sox roster was started months ago and Kenny Williams is building from strength! WSI's George Bova takes one last look in the rearview mirror and sees plenty to make Sox Fans ready to tackle 2008 as a golden opportunity and make Chicago proud again!
Thome the Individual
One happy day in the disappointing 2007 Sox season gives plenty of Sox Fans a moment to appreciate individual accomplishment. WSI's George Bova notes Jim Thome's spectacular walk-off 500th homerun isn't the first major accomplishment by an individual on this Sox team. Makes you proud to be a Sox Fan!
Senor Sock's 11 Good Things about the '07 Sox
While others are losing their heads and filled with panic, count on a soothing voice of reason from Senor Sock! The Toast of Argentina is disappointed, too, but offers insights into the Sox that only a sock could offer!
Bad to Horrible...
How bad are the 2007 White Sox? Bad enough that the word "bad" doesn't do justice to just how horrible they truly have been. The season is still a month from completion but WSI's Hal Vickery admits it can't finish soon enough for this bunch.
What has been happening with our Sox lately? Not much that can't be summarized by this: Does anybody care, most of all the Sox ballplayers themselves? WSI's Hal Vickery has seen a lot of Sox baseball but this team just plain quits.
What Happened?
The White Sox complete a disastrous west coast trip and Sox Fans are left to wonder what happened! WSI's Hal Vickery knows what set this team on its present course started long before the Sox traveled west. Could it be hubris? Say it ain't so!!!
