Media Rain on Sox!
If the Sox are winning, the forecast must be for lots of stormy weather in the mainstream media! WSI's Hal Vickery recounts the latest attempt by the media to rain on the Sox parade!
Farewell Chico Carrasquel
For Sox Fans of a certain age, the unique role Chico Carrasquel filled on Chicago's South Side can never be replicated. WSI's Hal Vickery writes this final tribute to the first of the Sox great Venezuelan shortstops who passed away last Thursday. Chico was 77.
Big Hurt to the Rescue?
Crisis? What crisis? The whiz kid starter gets sent back to Charlotte and the Sox offense continues to struggle, but WSI's Guy Bacci thinks the podiatrist has just what the Sox ordered: Frank's foot is healthy and the Big Hurt is back in the Sox line up!
I'm All In!
One-third of the season has lapsed and yet the Sox still have doubters, but WSI's Patrick Ferrini isn't one of them. Give your heart over to this team, for better or worse. Eternity is better for Sox Fans that loved and lost than those that never loved at all!
Fret for the Sox!
Sox Fans are naturally a fretful lot, too wise and realistic for their own good, trained to know disaster always lurks watching the Sox. WSI's Hal Vickery is ecstatic about the team's play but their success is wreaking havoc on his Sox Fan stomach lining!
Playing to Win!
Perhaps the greatest difference between the 2005 Sox and the teams that came before them is how they play each game to win! As a long-time observer of this outfit, and a well-known rooting interest, WSI's Hal Vickery applauds the change!
Experts Reveal Ignorance!
Sox Fans never have too much trouble staying on the edge of their seats, even when the Sox aren't playing, thanks to the numbskulls who pass themselves off as "experts" about baseball and the Sox. WSI's Patrick Ferrini has plenty to say on this subject and what Sox Fan doesn't?
Sold on the Sox!
It has been a one-of-a-kind spring for Sox Fans! WSI's Guy Bacci recounts the myraid reasons this team has made him a true believer. Is that a "point C" championship believer, too?
ESPN? Nyet!
The 2005 White Sox have a chance to prove themselves truly special, but the story seems hopelessly hidden by people who ought to know better. Sox Fan Patrick Ferrini doesn't know what a world championship feels like, but he sure wishes somebody would make the ride more enjoyable!
Props for Don Cooper!
Assembling a pitching staff as talented and deep as the Sox' has earned deserved props for GM Kenny Williams. WSI's Dave Schmitt notes the pitching coach deserves a bit of credit, too.
Attendance Dopes!
If the Sox are off to franchise record start, setting an unprecedented streak in the entire history of the sport of baseball, then obviously the talk on TV and radio must be about attendance! WSI's Hal Vickery is one Sox Fan who has heard enough!
Media Delusions!
Is there a minimum intelligence requirement for being a sportswriter? After the newest silly rip job on our team, our fans, and our ballpark, WSI's Hal Vickery is quite sure there isn't.
Props for Kenny!
The Sox are off to record-breaking start confounding everyone but Sox Fans for what could explain their improvement over last year! WSI's Jim Laffer recounts the "under the radar" comments by GM Kenny Williams that has built 2005's leading championship contender so far!
Media's Diss Sox?
In case you hadn't heard, the Chicago White Sox have started the season as the hottest team in baseball! With all the negative angles the media keeps finding to this story, WSI's Guy Bacci is the lone Sox Fan voice not to miss the central point: The Sox are the hottest story in Chicago -- the media's indifference be damned!
The Pinch Me Sox!
A record start to the 2005 season has Sox Fans in a state near disbelief! WSI's Hal Vickery joins the chorus praising their winning ways, playing baseball in a manner both near and dear to South Side fans!
Who to Close?
While the improvement in the '05 Sox starting rotation gets most of the headlines, the bullpen is vastly improved over 2004, too. With so many more quality options available to skipper Ozzie Guillen, WSI's Hal Vickery wonders if a more democratic view of the closer's role might be in order?
For Starters, Pretty Good!
The first trip through the starting-five of the Sox rotation in 2005 was like nothing Sox Fans saw in 2004! WSI's Hal Vickery is loving it right along with all the other totally biased Sox Fans.
Media Side Shows!
Jerry Reinsdorf goes off the deep end on the radio, and the usual moron takes his predictable shots inside Chicago's second-class rag, too. Thank God the baseball has been great says WSI's Guy Bacci!
Sizing Up these Sox!
The Sox have a very different look from anytime in recent memory. WSI's Hal Vickery asks the questions that every Sox Fan is anxious to know the answers to, too!
Win or Die Trying?
For all but the youngest Sox Fans the dawn of another Sox season can't help but recall the bruises and scars of past Sox campaigns gone awry! WSI's Guy Bacci wants desperately to put top spin on the 2005 season... but is dying one more time really necessary?
