WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Hail the Champs (to be)!

(September 8, 2000)

Short Take:  Chisox Defense clinches victory!

Our Sox came to Cleveland needing to win one game.  They got what they needed Friday night and look to go for more -- like any true champion would.  God Bless our Chicago White Sox.  They are the best team in our city and proved themselves the class of the American League Central Division, too.  Cleveland falls 8.5 games behind our Pale Hose after a 5-4 Sox victory at Jacobs Field.  That's win number #85, if you're counting.

Na Na Na, Hey Hey Hey, Kiss'em Good Bye!

Heart of champions, Sox fans.  This was a tough victory and fairly earned.  James Baldwin scuffled, his pace was exceptionally slow, and he surrendered four runs in 4.1 innings.  His teammates kept him in the game just the same.  Down 1-0, Carlos Lee reached base, and Paul Konerko crushed one so deep into the seats the Chief Wahoo sign in leftfield nearly lost some teeth, 2-1 Sox.  Next inning Jose Valentin poked one over the wall for a solo shot and made it 3-1.  Chris Singleton and Charles Johnson each had rbi singles in the fourth, 5-1 Sox.

If our guy was the one with the tired arm, you wouldn't have known it by the scoreboard.  A gutsy performance by J.B.  The bullpen was awesome in relief, too.  Mark Buehrle, Sean Lowe, Kelly Wunsch (a bit shaky), Bob Howry, and Keith Foulke get the job done, allowing just one hit the last 4.2 innings.

With their vital signs fading, and Tribe fans hallucinating five seasons worth of faded memories of glory, the Indians started their comeback.  The Sox were there to put the final dagger in their hearts.

Beeeeeeeeeeeeee.......  104 wins in '95 ........ Beeeeeeee.....  one out away from the '97 world championship ....... Beeeeeeeeee.......   five consecutive division championships ........

"There's a hot smash by Thome -- CAUGHT by Paul Konerko!!!!"

....... "Clear!"     ..... "Clear!"      .... "Clear!"

"Bottom of the ninth, Lofton swings popped foul,  Valentin races over...  into the seats...  HE'S GOT IT!  JOSE VALENTIN catches it two row deep and Lofton is out to start the ninth -- Unbelievable!!!

....."Clear!"    .... "Clear!

Keith Foulke gets two more groundouts and the Tribe expire -- with Manny Ramirez holding his bat in the on-deck circle.

Mark the time:  10:39 pm EDT.

The Champs are dead.  Long live the Champs!
