Sox Go to Eleven!

(April 18, 2000)

As Nigel Tufnail of Spinal Tap once noted about his guitar's amplifier, "eleven is one better than ten."

The Chicago White Sox exploded for eleven runs in the fourth inning, crushing Seattle and cruising to an 18-11 victory.   It's all the more impressive when you consider how hand-cuffed the team was the past two games against Anaheim's junkball pitchers.  Amazing.

The Sox hitting heroes number in the dozen.  Greg Norton, Mark Johnson, and Paul Konerko each hit home runs.  Norton and Chris Singleton each had 4 rbi's.  Norton, Singleton, Johnson, Ray Durham, Jose Valentin (back from injury), and Frank Thomas each had multi-hit nights.

The Sox sent 13 hitters to the plate in the fourth inning, scoring 11 runs, the most by the club in a single inning since scoring 13 runs against Washington in 1943.

Tanyon Sturtze was in the right place at the right time, picking up the win after relieving starter Cal Eldred in the third inning.  He pitched 3-2/3rd innings allowing 3 runs and 4 hits.  Bill Simas looked great pitching with a fat lead for two innings.  Keith Foulke finally got touched for an earned run when he allowed a three-run homer in the ninth.  The M's ran out of outs still trailing by a touchdown and the extra point.

No Big Deal.
