Cruising at the K

Sox Office Smash Hit:
Bustin' Kauffman ghosts makes me feel good.

Short Take:  Timely offense backs strong outing by Quintana as Sox top KC 6-0

Kauffman Stadium or "The K" as the locals in Missouri call it, has not been a kind ballpark to the Chicago White Sox. In recent seasons, it has stirred many terrible memores of the old HHH Metrodome in the way that bad things always happen there to the team wearing the Old English SOX script on their hats. The Sox were able to quell some of these historic bad vibes tonight and snap their mini two game skid. The Pale Hose rode the strong pitching of Jose Quintana and some offensive heroics by Avi, Soto, and Sanchez as they topped KC by a score of 6-0.

The good guys in black opened the scoring in the bottom of the 2nd off Royals ace, Danny Duffy. Todd Frazier dinked a soft liner into RF to lead things off followed by a sharp single to RF by the red hot Avi Garcia. Both Frazier and Avi advanced an extra base due to an errant throw to 3B that Cuthbert couldn't handle. The Sox would make them pay for the miscue. Geo Soto blasted a line drive RBI single to CF to get the first run home. The Sox would plate the second run on a slow roller force out from recently recalled OF Willy Garcia. This gave the Sox and Quintana a quick 2-0 lead. The South Siders would follow that up in the 3rd with two more runs on a bases loaded RBI single from Avisail Garcia and a sac fly from Geovany Soto expanding the lead to 4-0.

Danny Duffy's night would end in the Top of the 6th after a leadoff walk from Avi Garcia and another hit from Geovany Soto. Duffy has struggled against the Sox this year much like the entire KC team. Avi and Soto were a dynamic duo tonight and KC just couldn't stop them for most of the evening. Avi would end up scoring the 5th run on a slow grounder from Leury Garcia thanks to another botched throw by the normally sound KC defense. Yolmer Sanchez continued his solid game by driving home Soto on a line drive to RF making it 6-0. Quintana had to be sitting in the dugout in amazement that he was getting actual run support from his team.

There would be no goofy bounces, no "Kansas City Specials", and no 9th inning meltdowns tonight by the Sox bullpen. This relaxing ballgame was all White Sox from the get go. Jose Quintana was brilliant and the offense was timely with a little help from KC's defense. It's very early in the 2017 season but so far, the White Sox are 4W-1L against the KC Royals and seem to be turning a new leaf against the AL Central where they have struggled in recent years. I took particular joy in seeing Lorenzo Cain throw his hands up in frustration after grounding out to end an inning. Considering the pain inflicted by Cain and the rest of the Royals on White Sox fans over the years, I'm playing the world's smallest violin for them. Let's hope this trend against KC continues and the Sox kick them while they are down. Rebuilding or not, this White Sox team has a ton of fight and has reclaimed first place once again. The Sox look to take Game 3 tomorrow night as Mike Pelfrey takes the bump against Nate Karns.

Game Notes-

-Avisail Garcia was 2 for 2, with 1BB, 2R, and 1 RBI.
