Offensive Spark and Bark at the Park

September 13th, 2016 vs. Cleveland Indians

Toon Squad Update:
A lot of happy slobbering dogs at the park tonight.

Short Take:   Quintana stellar for 8 innings, Sox offense scalps the Tribe in the 6th.

The Sox set a new Guiness record at US Cellular Field on Tuesday night for dogs at a sporting event with 1120 pups in attendance. While it may have provided some fodder for local Cub media idiots, it was a fun promotion that filled the entire outfield seats with fans and dogs. If I owned a dog, I probably would have gone too. The ballgame on the field entertained their owners as well with the good guys scalping the Tribe 8-1 behind the stellar pitching of Jose Quintana.

The Sox would strike early in this game in the 1st inning. Adam Eaton lead off with a single and would eventually make his way to 3B on an Anderson sac bunt and a Melky groundout. The red hot Jose Abreu then dumped a gork shot RBI single to RF that drove home Adam Eaton staking Quintana to an early 1-0 lead over Bauer. Unfortunately, the Indians would answer back in the Top of the 2nd. Jose Quintana hung a curveball that Brandon Guyer ripped out to LF for a solo HR tying hte game at 1-1.

The game stayed locked in a 1-1 pitching duel until the 6th inning when the rarest of White Sox events happened. The Pale Hose loaded the bases with nobody out against Trevor Bauer and did exactly what you are supposed to do to a pitcher who does that. They stepped on Bauer's throat and put the game completely out of reach. This is not a typo. The White Sox offense bludgeoned a team to death with the bases loaded. It was a hit parade with RISP for the Sox as another RBI single from Abreu and then a 2 RBI single up the middle by Todd Frazier chased Trevor Bauer from the game. The RBIs didn't stop against the Indians bullpen. Avisail Garcia piled on the Tribe's Dan Otero with an RBI single. Carlos Sanchez ripped a 2 RBI triple and then Eaton crushed a gapper for an exclamation point RBI double. It was a ton of offense and a ton of hard contact for the good guys that amazingly did not include a HR. When the dust finally settled, the Sox had pushed across 7 runs and had taken a commanding 8-1 lead. Jose Quintana had to be blinking away tears in the dugout at such an explosion of offensive support.

Speaking of Jose Quintana, he pitched 8 strong innings giving up only the solo HR to Guyer. Q was good when the game was 1-1 and didn't skip a beat when the Sox gave him the big lead. A game like this offers a rare glipse of how easy things can be for the Sox when they support their good pitchers with some offense. Chris Beck came on to pitch a scoreless 9th in relief as the 8-1 score held up for the final sending the dogs and their owners home happy. The Sox have taken the first 2 games in this 4 game set against the Tribe in convincing fashion. They look to take the series tomorrow night as Carlos Rodon will be on the hill taking on Josh Tomlin.

-Jose Abreu has 37 RBIs in his last 37 games. (stat courtesy of @ckamka)

-Quintana extended his career high W total with win #12.

-Adam Eaton went 2 for 4 and is hitting .377 in his last 14 games.

-Todd Frazier's 2 RBIs put him at 90 while Abreu's 2 RBIs put him at 94 on the season. Both sluggers are closing in on 100.

That's all folks:
Bark, bark, woof, woof, bark! Sox win!
