Two Mistakes

September 11 vs Kansas City Royals

Toon Squad Update:
Mr Boffo
Small mistakes loom big

Short Take: Sox missing offense sinks Sale.

For the fourth year in a row, Chris Sale has recorded over 200 strikeouts. The Sox power pitcher is the only one is team history to do so. But without some offense, personal accomplishments yield no wins. The Sox were defeated by Kansas City 2-0.

The White Sox offense was stymied by Royals pitcher Ian Kennedy. Adam Eaton was the only Sox batter to record a base hit: one in the top of the 1st and one in the top of the 9th. All the other Sox baserunners, and there were five of them, reached base via the generosity of Kansas City pitching. Kennedy got himself into trouble in the 3rd by walking the bases loaded with two outs. Melky Cabrera was unable to convert a 3-2 pitch into any offense, and the rally fizzled.

Sale's only two mistakes were made to Kendrys Morales and Eric Hosmer. Morales homered in the 2nd and Hosmer in the 6th. Sale scattered six other hits in his eight innings of work, striking out 12 and walking only one.

Royals closer Wade Davis got into trouble in the bottom of the 9th, but the White Sox couldn't get the timely hit to drive in any runs. Eaton singled and Cabrera walked with one out. Neither Jose Abreu nor Justin Morneau were able to solve Davis, and he completed the shutout.

The Sox home stand continues on Monday against division-leading Cleveland Indians. Miguel Gonzales faces Carlos Carrasco in a 7:10 pm start. Game broadcast is on WGN.
