WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Gonzo Blanks Tigers

September 6th, 2016 vs. Detroit Tigers

Toon Squad Update:
Sox pitching arrow sharp.

Short Take:   Gonzalez and bullpen make 2 runs stand up as Sox topple Tigers 2-0.

This is going to be an abbreviated bullet point edition of the TBGR due to some unforeseen A/C problems at Foulke You manor that needed to be addressed.

-Miguel Gonzalez returned to the mound tonight after a stint on the 15 day DL. He went 6.1 strong shutout innings, scattering 6 hits, 4Ks, and 0 ER. He remains Hahn's best reclamation project of 2016.

-The Sox bullpen covered 2 2/3 innings and made the shutout stand up for Miguel Gonzalez. The biggest drama came in the 7th inning as Nate Jones pitched out of a bases loaded jam.

-David Robertson recorded 2Ks for save #34. The inning featured a replay overturned J.D. Martinez HR that was shown to be foul.

-Sox pitching limited the Tigers 2 table setters to 1 hit combined. It turns out that having the bases empty for Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez is a sound strategy.

-The offense was poor overall again tonight but there were two bright spots. Jose Abreu continued his torrid hitting with his 23rd HR of the season out to LF. Omar Narvaez drove in the 2nd run with an RBI single.

-Tonight's rare AL Central win knocked the Tigers out of the 2nd wild card spot. The Sox successfully played spoiler for one night.

-Prior to the game, the Sox called up Leury Garcia, Jason Coats, and relief pitcher Blake Smith. Both Coats and Leury Garcia were in the lineup tonight. Coats went 1 for 3 with a run scored while Leury went 0 for 4.

-Quintana goes for the series victory tomorrow afternoon as he faces off with Anibal Sanchez.

That's all folks:
 Welcome back Miguel Gonzalez!
