Snooze For Shields

July 10 vs Atlanta Braves

Toon Squad Update:
Evil-Eye Fleegle
Braves pitching put the whammy on Sox bats

Short Take: Zero Sox runs wastes good Shields outing.

You can't win if you can't score. The Sox fell for this old chestnut to the Atlanta Braves by a score of 2-0.

James Shields tossed his fourth consecutive effective outing, holding Atlanta to just two runs on six hits over 7⅔ innings. Unfortunately, two of those hits were solo home runs, and the White Sox were unable to answer offensively. A good performance by Shields, but wasted.

The Atlanta culprits were Jeff Francour and Jace Peterson, striking their death blows in the 2nd and 3rd innings respectively. The Sox managed to get one base runner to third today, when Tim Anderson socked his second single of the day with JB Shuck on first. The rally had started with two out, and Adam Eaton harmlessly flied out to left. No other Sox runner even made it to second base.

Anderson continues to confound opposing pitchers and SABRites alike. Today he notched his 14th multi-hit game in just 28 games. In a mediocre season to date, Anderson remains a bright spot in the White Sox future.

As we go into All-Star break, three current and one future Sox will not have a full rest. Chris Sale and Jose Quintana will represent the South Siders at the All-Star game on Tuesday. Todd Frazier will defend his Home Run Derby title on Monday. And tonight, Carson Fullmer will represent the USA team in the MLB Futures Game. The White Sox second half resumes on Friday in Anaheim over Comcast Sports Net at 9:05 pm. No pitching matchups have been announced.

That's all folks:
Time to rest up for a productive second half.
