Toon Squad Update:
Rising From the Ashes Like Phoenix of the X-Men

Short Take:  Frazier and Saladino HRs Lead Comeback Win, 6-4 Over Mets

Finally. The reeling White Sox were looking for someone to step up and pull the team up off the mat. On this night, it was Todd Frazier and Tyler Saladino who answered the call for the South Side 9. A late rally by the Sox would sink the Mets 6-4 and bring this 7 game losing streak to a merciful conclusion.

The Metropolitans got on the board quickly in this game by scoring a run in the first and again in the second inning on sac flies. Both runs were unearned due to some uncharacteristic errors from Todd Frazier. He couldn't handle a sub par feed from Lawrie on a grounder in the first and then threw one away on a charging play in the second. It's rare to see the sure handed Frazier make a single error let alone two in one game. The Mets would extend their lead in the bottom of the 3rd as Neil Walker would burn the Sox for the second straight game with a 2 run HR. The shot hooked down the line and cleared the fence in RF by a couple rows. With the Mets up 4-0 and young talented lefty Steven Matz on cruise control, it appeared that the Sox were most certainly headed to an 8th straight defeat.

However, the Sox offense would wake up in the Top of the 6th. Abreu lead off the inning with a soft single that Mets 1B James Loney couldn't handle. Todd Frazier would then provide a defibrillator jolt with a big blast to LF on a hanging curve ball from Matz. The 2 run HR would cut the Mets lead to 4-2 but the Sox weren't done in the 6th. Saladino got on base with a walk and took advantage of the young lefty by stealing both 2nd and 3rd base. Dioner Navarro would make Matz pay for ignoring Saladino on the basepaths by depositing a single over the head of Azdrubal Cabrera. It was now a 4-3 ballgame and the momentum had shifted towards the Sox.

The White Sox would get their offense going again in the top of the 8th. After Melky Cabrera lead off the inning with a walk, Tyler Saladino crushed a high slider from Robles that went about 10 rows farther than the one Frazier hit in the 6th. The lead was now 5-4 White Sox. Brett Lawrie would tack on an RBI single later in the inning but it was an insurance run the Sox wouldn't need. The bullpen was up to the task today as Putnam, Jennings, Jones, and Robertson covered 12 outs and 4 innings with no runs scoring. Nate Jones and David Robertson in particular looked crisp and appeared to be no worse for the wear after the debacle in KC.

This was a big win for the struggling White Sox and stopped the bleeding after a string of fan murdering ballgames. For one day, we don't have to discuss a strategic blunder from Robin Ventura but focus rather on some heroics by Tyler Saladino and Todd Frazier. Tyler Saladino in particular stood out in this game and Robin needs to recognize that he should be getting most of the starts over the aging Rollins who appears better suited to a bench role at this stage of his career. The South Siders have jumped the Indians in the standings and have moved into 2nd place. A win tomorrow could certainly do wonders for this team's confidence as they haven't won a series in quite some time. The Sox send Miguel Gonzalez to the bump tomorrow afternoon to take on Jacob deGrom and the Mets in the rubber match.

Game Notes-

-Tyler Saladino went 2 for 2, 1HR, 2RBI, 2R, 2SB

-Sox bullpen covered 12 outs, 0BB, and only 2H allowed.

-Mets ace Noah Syndergaard made a rare relief appearance in the 7th inning. He pitched a scoreless frame.

-Mat Latos 5IP, 4Runs (2 Earned), 5K, 3BB

That's all folks:
