One and Done

April 18 in Chicago vs. the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

Toon Squad Update:
Elmer Fudd
Hapless, harmless, and inoffensive

Short Take:   Rodon can't escape first inning, Sox bats remain in hiding

This is either the easiest or hardest to write kind of game update. Carlos Rodon proved, at least for a day, that he hasn't yet achieved total dominance. He couldn't find the zone, then yielded a succession of singles before leaving the bases loaded and a five-run deficit in the first inning. The pen had to eat innings and 26 outs, not what you want to start a homestand. What you want even less is for the lineup to continue its somnambulance. The Angels strolled to a 7-0 win that was mercifully over quickly if you were lucky enough to be watching on DVR.

Yes, Todd Frazier took another oh-fer, but with a walk and just one K. The Sox succumbed to their former teammate Hector Santiago, who'd look mighty fine filling our fifth starting pitcher slot these days. Jose Abreu made the game's lone error, but timing was unfortunate -- in top of the first, as Rodon was already struggling -- when the big first baseman made an ill-advised flip to help the Angels get rolling.

A pair of singles (Rollins and Abreu) and a double (Eaton) were all the Sox could muster. The glow of their fast start to 2016 is fading as the offensive outage is bringing back bad memories for the fans, if not the players themselves. At least the 14,706 in attendance had a beautiful, warm evening to sit out and look at their cell phones.

That's all folks:
The Sox hitters are Sleepy, fans are getting Grumpy
