Sox Keep Minnesota T-winless

April 14 at Minnesota Twins

Toon Squad Update:
A Cinderella story
Does this Minny sweep point to a fairy-tale like season for the Sox?

Short Take: †Latos is great, Sox bats do enough, and bullpen locks it down for a 3-1 victory; Sox sweep the Twins

You heard it right - the Sox beat the Twins 3-1 today to sweep the Twins right out of their house in Minnesota. A sweep! In Minneapolis! I might not have believed it if I hadnít seen it with my own eyes. The Sox have a 7-2 record and sit in 1st place in the AL Central. How very refreshing after the teamís slow start for the past few seasons.

And the hapless Twinkies will have to continue their quest for a win in 2016 against another team...0-9? Ouch!

Against Twins starter Ervin Santana, our Sox finally broke the 2016 ďhavenít scored in the 1st inningĒ streak. A double by Adam Eaton, followed by singles from Melky Cabrera and Jose Abreu, plated that elusive run. Turns out they didnít need much more than that, but Avisail Garcia contributed another run with a solo homer in the 4th, and Tyler Saladinoís sac fly scored Garcia in the 7th.

The Mat Latos and Dioner Navarro battery had the Twins figured out, holding them to only 1 run on a Trevor Plouffe groundout that scored Joe Mauer in the 4th. For the rest of the game, the Twins looked suspiciously like the 2015 White Sox, unable to capitalize on several scoring opportunities.

Latos continues to impress and may turn out to be a key addition to the Sox starting staff Ė perhaps even giving our 1, 2, and 3 starters a run for their money. The bullpen of Matt Albers, Zach Duke, and Nate Jones combined keep the Twins off the board. David Robertson closed out the game with 2 strikeouts and was aided by a spectacular defensive play by 3rd baseman Todd Frazier to end the game.

The Sox head to Tampa Bay for a series against the Rays beginning tomorrow. Chris Sale is set to face Jake Odorizzi at 6:10 PM CST.

WSI's That's All, Folks: †This black-and-white coach is not planning on turning into a pumpkin any time soon.
