ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ... (snort)... wha? Sox Win!

September 25 at Yankees

Sox Project Update:
Bought some planks to board up the site
Pass me a beer the project's done for the year!

Short Take: Rodon is wild but mostly effective and the bats go solo homer happy late.

I don't wanna write a recap... sigh... well sometimes we all do things we don't want to do. The Sox are currently doing that too as they play out the string on a season most likely to end up on the losing side of the ledger. Tonight they managed to get nine guys to take the field and a 10th one to bat (as most AL teams prefer to do) and they actually managed to be successful. Not that anyone with any kind of life is noticing. Yours truly was doing paperwork for his job in his home office and was streaming the game so he could report to you oh fearless and wide-eyed readers and in case your wide open eyes were not actually subjecting your brain to this 9 inning snooze fest I will regale you with the highlights. Offensively the Sox were dull but effective and managed some fireworks late. Rodon seeming to buy into the theme was wild but effective through six and the bullpen was its usual solid self as the Sox went on to win 5-2.

The Sox managed a run in the second and another in the third all with the help of just one extra-base hit, a double by Ramirez. After that they didn't do much though they did put runners on the corners with one out in the 5th before Beckham grounded into a double play. Finally, in the 7th the Sox the bats finally came alive with a couple of solo shots by Olt and the aforementioned Beckham to give the Sox a lead they would never relinquish. In the 9th the Sox added another run on a series of 2-out singles, but the inning ended there when Trayce Thompson lined out to short with the bases loaded.

Still that would be enough as Sox pitching and the defense were more than up for the task. Rodon went 6 innings using only 91 pitches even though he walked 5 guys. Wildly effective would be an understatement One of his pitches was so far outside one was left waiting for Harry Doyle to chime in. Rodon actually put himself on the ropes in the 4th when he loaded the bases with one away and then gave up a game tying single and then another single that reloaded the bases. Fortunately he got help from his defense which turned the first of four double plays to end the inning. The Sox then turned one in the 6th, 7th and 8th. By then the bullpen had taken over and managed to induce the final two after a few minor bumps in the road. In the 9th Robertson came in and nailed it down in fine fashion with a few well hit balls that merely left the Yankee fans feeling extra bummed.

So that's the story of the Sox got back to 8-games under .500... again... This time with exactly 8 to play. Not a lot to see here, Sox fans, but if you are in the mood for more of this nonsense, you can tune in tomorrow at 3:05 in Chicago to see these same two teams go at it again. Me? I'll be passed out on the couch after donating blood and no that's not just a metaphor for this season as a Sox fan...

Rebuilding Recap:
Won't really know what's going on with the team until sometime in 2016.
