Sox Project Update:
Heartbreak Hotel
Sox fans are Sad and lonely and have a sad tale to tell

Short Take: "Looks like a blue Christmas is hading our way. Heck, looks like a blue labor Day"

It's Now or Never... at least that's what Sox fans are thinking as they watch the fading hopes of the 2015 season trickle down the drain. Playing the cellar dwellers of the AL this week seemed like one of the last chances to really make up some ground and put the team in a position to make a run for the Wildcard 2 slot in September. Unfortunately Never seems to be the key word in that sentence and the Sox don't seem to understand the urgency of their situation or maybe they just wanted to get the game over so they could watch the Elvis impersonators. Whatever the reason the team looked lifeless and went on to lose 2-0 to the hapless Mariners.

The game began slowly for both teams, though the Mariners were at least getting hits. Danks managed to keep them off the board for the first 5 innings though he had to strand several Seattle runners to do so. In the 6th he let down and the Mariners jacked out a couple of solo shots making the score 2-0. The bullpen came in and shut the door the rest of the way though not without making things more interesting than they needed to be. In fact this game could easily have been over in 2:15 if not for all the long replay delays, pitching changes and baserunners who didn't score. Certainly as far as the offense was concerned it was over long before it actually finished because that side of the equation was completely inept.

Four freaking hits.... That's what our boys managed tonight. 4!!! And 2 guys managed to collect all 4 of them. Despite all that the Sox actually had a chance in the 7th when they loaded the bases with one out. Up to the plate strode JB Shuck with a favorable matchup. Shuck promptly bounced a hard one-hopper to the Mariners' 3B who fired home and the relay to first beat JB by 5 steps. After that Sox fans realized they were going home lonesome tonight and all that was left was to cue the imitators... oh wait, they were already on the field and you could almost hear the collective Elvii scream, "You ain't nothing but a hound dog..."

I didn't get to see the fun part of things because my MLB.TV subscription didn't cover that part of the evening, but it had to be more entertaining than the game the Sox managed to play and as we roll toward September, it's looking more and more likely that the Sox are who they appear to be, a bad baseball team with low motivation and meager baseball skills. Sox fans are left with their blue eyes crying in the rain wondering how an off season that started with so much promise has turned so turned out to be Make Believe. Well I suppose there's still some time left and the Sox will take the field tomorrow against the same Mariners and hope for a better outcome. Game time is 6:10 in Chicago and hopefully the game is more interesting because there's no after game show for the fans to enjoy if they put on another dismal show like tonight.
