WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

On the Ass End of an Ass-Kicking

June 22, vs. Minnesota

Sox Project Update:
The ship keeps sinking
Just when you think they've finally bottomed out, they dig a little deeper

Short Take: Twins hit 4 homers of John Danks & Co. in series opening rout

John Danks pitched three solid innings for the White Sox Monday night in Minnesota. Unfortunately, in Major League Baseball, the games last 9 so the lefty’s 4th inning meltdown proved to be plenty in a game the Twins piled it on in another comically bad night of baseball that has become all too familiar for those of us still paying attention to the lifeless blob that is known as the 2015 White Sox.

In Danks’s defense, it was another pedestrian night for the White Sox offense so he would have had to pitch one of his finer performances of the year to salvage this. Despite getting 11 hits on the evening, and earning 5 more baserunners courtesy of walks and HBP, the Sox only managed to put 2 runs on the board, which seems borderline impossible. Those runs came courtesy of Adam LaRoche, whose 2-run single in the third inning gave the Sox a brief lead in the contest. But for the most part, this evening’s offensive highlights were more baserunning miscues and missed opportunities.

As for the Twins, I won’t bore you with the grisly details of their massacre this evening. As noted, the Sox entered the 4th inning leading 2-1 but in the bottom half of the frame the gas ran out and the wheels fell off in a 5-run, 2-homer, 33-pitch ugly inning set this game’s course to “Loss.” Homers were courtesy of Joe Mauer, Eduardo Nunez, and later Kennys Vargas and Brian Dozier.

By the time the dust settled, the Twins had steamrolled past the Sox for a 13-2 win. Tommy Milone got the win for Minnesota while Danks, whose official line for the evening was an ugly 5.1 IP, 9 H, 9 R (only 5 earned), 1 BB, and 2 K takes his 8th loss in a 11 decisions this season.

The Twins and the Sox meet for Game 2 of this series tomorrow night in Minnesota. Jeff Samardzija will face off against Scott Pelfrey. Game time is 7:05.
