Avi go Boom! Avi go "oof!"

June 5th Vs. Kittens

Sox Project Update:
Working Overtime
Things are holding steady, Progress is slow but at least they aren't going backwards.

Short Take: A sterling effort by the bullpen gives the Sox a chance to come back late and Avi takes it.

So yeah... THAT happened! And by THAT I mean the usual typical Sox crap. Load the bases with nobody out see the next guy get plunked in the ribs and STILL ONLY SCORE ONE RUN! Not that anyone is complaining because that run came in the bottom of the 11th with the score tied at 3. Of course there was the usual 7 innings of 3-hit offense prior to that but Quintana was solid if unspectacular and the bullpen was BOTH solid AND spectacular allowing Laroche to bomb one out for the tie and Avisail to take one to the ribs for the walk off 4-3 win.

What can you say, for most of this game it was a pitchers duel. Both Quintana and Ryan were solid bordering on excellent for 6 innings. In the 7th Quintana seemed to run out of gas and gave up a couple of runs but managed to stop the bleeding there. In the bottom half, Ryan gave up a lead-off bomb to Avisail Garcia and allow the Sox back within a run and there it stayed through the 8th. The Sox Bullpen simply hummed as first Putnum and then Robertson struck out the side in the the 8th and 9th innings respectively. The Tigers were matching up, going batter to batter and brought their closer Soria in with 2-outs in the 8th to get the final out. In the ninth he retired Abreu and Garcia fairly easily but then served up a cookie to Adam Laroche who deposited the ball over the right field fence to tie the game at 3 and set up the extra innings while causing Sox fans to go wild.

Robertson came back out in the 10th and down the kittens went 1-2-3 again, but the Sox went meekly in their half of the frame. In came Jake Petricka who struggled a bit with command but got some help from his defense while going through the meaty part of the Kittens lineup and striking out Martinez on a nasty sinker to end the inning. In the bottom half of the inning the Kittens stayed with Wilson for his second straight inning and he just didn't have it, giving up back to back singles to start the inning and then intentionally walking Abreu to load them up. That brought up Avisail again who got down in the count 1-2 before taking the pitch to the ribs for the walk off HBP win. Avi took it and so will we.

So the Sox beat the kittens handing them their 8th straight loss, climbing (once again) to within 3-games of .500 and setting the stage for a fun weekend of baseball. Danks will start tomorrow against David Price for the kittens. Hopefully the Sox bats can be a little more productive without needing to take one for the team to earn the win. Of course if that's what it takes, we'll take it...

Rebuilding Recap:
Things went so well at the project site they set off fireworks, not once but twice.
