WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Tigers Out Duke the Sox

April 17 at Detroit

Sox Project Update:
Back to working on the basement
Hopefully this will turn into a really epic game room down the road.

Short Take:   Sox squander a good outting from Shark as the bats go silent.

Well that sucked. Another Friday let down. At least the Sox managed one more hit and thankfully that produced one more run but that turned out to be their only run of the game and in the end it was one run too few as the Tigers beat our Southside heroes 2-1 in the opening game of this weekend set.

Avasail Garcia homered in the second to give the sox an early lead and overall the game could have been a lot worse early. Jeff Samarzjia gave up a bunch of early hits but settled down after some timely defense in the 3rd helped him overcome shaky defense earlier in the inning. With runners on 1st and 3rd and nobody out following an error by Emiliao Bonafacio, Gordon Beckham charged a sharply hit ball and nabbed the runner at the plate on a good throw and tag. A few pitches later Gordon started an around the horn double play that would preserve the Sox early 1-run lead. Unfortunately a few innings later the Tigers would tie it on a massive homer by Cespedes that seemed like it was never going to land. Shark continued to allow baserunners but no more runs while on the other side Price was making quick work of Sox hitters and not allowing anyone to even reach second base. And so the score remained tied at one through 8 innings.

Then came the 9th and the Sox found a new and different way to blow the game. On a close play at second where Ramirez appeared to just tag the Castellanos before he got inm the ump ruled the runner safe. Robin came out talked to the ump then retreated to the dugout only to try and come back out and appeal. The umps ruled since a pinch runner had already been inserted the appeal could not happen. A sacrifice and a soft single later and the Tigers were celebrating and Sox fans were left scratching their collective heads about what had just happened.

Sox are back tied for last place while the bats continue to struggle. Eaton appears to be breaking out of his early funk but aside from Garcia the team is struggling to do much when given their swings. Hopefully that starts to turn around tomorrow as the Sox and kittens face off again in another early start. Hang in their Sox fans things are bound to turn around eventually, right? Right? Please tell me I'm right...
