WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

April 6, at Kansas City

Sox Project Update:
I just hope you didn't buy stock at the IPO!!!

Short Take:Royals rout Sox in Opening Day disaster

Well, the 2015 season has come and gone, Sox fans. It lasted approximately 6 innings until a 5-run Kansas City seventh inning turned a bleak afternoon into a laugher. Jeff Samardzija allowed 5 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks over 6 innings of work. The Sox retooled offense mustered only five hits of offense and avoided a shutout only thanks to the majesty of Jose Abreu. Above, if nothing else, the symbol of Monday’s lost afternoon in Kansas City had to be poor Micah Johnson, the talented rookie second baseman, who won the starting job after a strong Spring performance, who was picked off first base almost immediately after collecting the first hit of his Major League career. There’s not much else to talk about today, Sox fans. Kansas City 10, White Sox 1. Let’s move on with it.

It is just one game, but unfortunately after waiting through another long Midwestern winter, it appears that we’ll all have to wait at least a couple more days for the White Sox to show up. Jeff Samardzija, making his White Sox debut, was shaky early and often, consistently working his way into trouble and not being able to escape unscathed. The pesky Royals found every which way to score; whether it be smallball and moving runners over, or the long ball courtesy of Mike Moustakas in the 5th inning, it seemed by the time the Sox even caught their breath, they were staring down a 4-0 hole.

Abreu's 7th inning bomb made things temporarily interesting in the 7th, but everything imploded in the bottom half of the frame as Dan Jennings and Kyle Drabek, also making their White Sox debuts, allowed 5 runs to score on consecutive batters, the first in the form of a 2-run single by Alex Gordon and then a 3-run homer by Alex Rios, who is back in the Central division to piss off Sox fans still holding a grudge, I guess.

At any rate, while 10-1 will sting for a few days, it still counts as just 0-1 in the standings. Not the best foot forward, but, I’ve been told they’re going to play out the rest of the 161 games anyway.

The Sox and Royals will hook up for Game 2 of this Opening week series Wednesday night following tomorrow’s off day. Jose Quintana makes his 2015 season debut against Danny Duffy. Game time is 7:10 PM and the game will be aired on WGN.

Stay calm, everybody.
