WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Ugh, just ugh...

August 24 at Yankees

Daily Sox Crop Report:
Crab Apples
Gillaspie and Garcia looked good, the rest? Meh...

Short Take:   The usual, Sox take lead, Sox blow lead, Sox tie game late, Sox lose.

Oh you're still reading? Honestly the part you need to know you've already seen. The Sox pulled the usual crap today, hitting a couple of home runs to take a lead in the middle innings, but then the pitching let down and gave the lead right back. The Sox then tied it on another homer in the 9th only to lose in the tenth on a 3-run bomb. The 7-4 loss was their 6th straight and it leaves them only a half game ahead of the last place Twinkies as I type.

And still you read On? You must be a glutton for punishment, but I appreciate your dedication to reliving today's action, if by action you mean the dying flailings of an injured animal being slowly devoured by a bigger stronger predator. In all fairness, the Sox seemed to have a chance today. Chris Sale was on the mound for our heroes and he pitched well enough to take a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the 6th on the strength of two homers by Ramirez and Gillaspie. Unfortunately that was when Chris ran out of steam. An error by Viciedo was followed by a double, a walk a strike out and another walk to load the bases. At that point Sale seeme dto say screw it and promptly drilled the next batter before giving up a single. When the dust cleared the Yankees had scored four "unearned" runs. That's where the score would stay until Avasail Garcia drilled one to the opposite field seats in the top of the ninth to tie the score. Once again there was hope and joy and Sox fans were high-fiving everyone and anyone they could reach. Then came the inevitable 10th inning. With two outs and men on first and second, Jose "Casey" Abreu stood tall in the batter's box and like the hero from the famous poem promptly struckout. Unlike the infamous Casey our hero didn't bother to swing. Naturally that was followed by the gut-punch 2-out 3-run bomb by the Yankees in their half of the same frame and all those high-fives turned to fists of rage and many a remote did pay the price. Well probably not.

And still you soldier on. I admit I'm a little choked up by your commitment. I only wish our team showed as much effort. Well if anyone still had any kind of hope for the last five weeks of the season, the last 6 days has been an ice bucket challenge in it's own right. Wakey wakey Sox fans. Okay, now go back to sleep the rest of the season won't mean a thing. That doesn't mean there's no reason to watch. Hopefully some of the younger players will give reason for hope and maybe a call up or two will entice as they have a solid September, but there won't be any mystery or magic in the final outcome. The Sox are toast. The next chance to see our crispy bread boys in action is Tuesday against the dreaded toons. Hopefully we can play a bit better and break this awful streak. It has to end sometime, right? And when it does, there will be much high-fiving...
