WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Not with a bang...

August 10 at Seattle

Daily Sox Crop Report:
Slim bruised pickings
Only future players playing were Abreu and Gillaspie (unless you count Flowers) and they didn't do much.

Short Take:   Sox looked tired and lifeless for 7+ innings before scoring a couple of meaningless runs to make the game look closer thatn it was.

Another lost series after the second half started off with much promise and fanfare. Sox fans let a good run to restart things fire them up and give them some hope. There was promise and hype and wins galore. The Sox were fighting back into the playoff chase and Garcia was months ahead of schedule and hoping to resume playing soon. Heck even Nate Jones and Matt Lindstrom were due back soon and.. and... and... Then Jones blew out his elbow for the second time this season while rehabbing and Eaton got hurt and Beckham didn't surge after the trade deadline passed and well the Sox are fading away. They lost again today 4-2 to the resurgent Mariners to lose their 3rd straight series and for the seventh time in the last 10 games. Sigh...

Not much to crow about in this one. John Danks continues his second half struggles giving up 3 runs early in the game though he managed to pitch into the 7th before getting pulled. His final total of 6.1 innings and 4 earned runs looks more like 4th or 5th starter material at best and whether he will ever return to the form that earned him his big contract seems less and less likely. The offense on the other hand was just plain bad for the first 7 innings until Flowers managed a solo shot in the 8th. The Sox then showed some life in the ninth, loading the baes against Fernando Rodney and his hat brim of doom. Unfortunately that is where things ended and the Sox will slink out of town grateful to have won one game of the series.

By now you are thinking, man that is one depressing recap and unfortunately you are correct. There really isn't much to smile about these days. The days of dreaming about playoffs and players returning to save the season and a mad scramble for the finish as the Sox prove it actually is possible to rebuild and contend at the same time are long gone and Sox fans are starting to look towards other activities for their late Summer entertainment. Monday is thankfully an off day before the Sox head to San Francisco for a short twofer series and while anything may truly be possible, the odds on a happy ending to this season are getting longer and longer by the moment.

The Futures Market:
You should still be buying but you might want to take a LONG position.
