WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

June 22 at Minnesota Twins

Daily Sox Crop Report:
Someone poisoned the well.

Short Take: Danks is dull and Sox bats show little life; Sox lose 6-5, get swept in Minny

What can I say about this pile of steaming crap called "White Sox Baseball in Minnesota?"

For this entire series - against a mediocre Twins team that was coming off a 5-game losing streak - White Sox pitchers have been very hittable, and White Sox hitters have been very pitchable, making for some serious grumbling among White Sox fans.

Don't let that close score trick you. Against Phil Hughes today, one of Twin's best starters, the Sox mustered 5 runs off of him in one inning - but little else.

Couple that with the fact that Sox starter John Danks could not locate, and what pitches he did locate didn't fool the Twins, who hit everything hard...well, you get the idea. No pitching + no hitting = yet another loss, and a sweep by Minnesota.

The game's offensive highlight for the Sox was the 5-run 3rd inning, featuring a barrage of singles and doubles, and 2 RBIs each for Gorden Beckham and Jose Abreu and 1 RBI for Conor Gillapsie. Alas, it must have been a case of Phil Hughes briefly losing it, because the rest of the game was mostly devoid of White Sox hits and absolutely devoid of White Sox runs.

Danks pitched 5.0 innings, gave up 6 earned runs, 10 hits, walked 4 and struck out 1. After he came out in the 6th with 101 pitches, Jake Petricka, Scott Downs, and Zach Putnam held down the fort. Although this season's Sox team has periodically dredged up enough gumption to come from behind and win late in games, today was not one of those days.

And we can't even blame this crap on the Dumpdome any more.

I'll close with my Jimmy Fallon-esque thank you note, to be sent to the team after today's game:

(cue the tinkling notes of a piano...)

Dear Chicago White Sox,

Thank you for spending the last two weeks getting swept by two AL Central division opponents, and sinking to the bottom of the division standings. These past few weeks of watching you play terrible baseball has freed me from my desire to watch every game. Now I can enjoy my summer days outside, walking my dogs, or gardening, or reading, instead of watching you lose in a myraid of ways while falsely fueling my hopes for a good season.

Oh, yeah...if anyone still cares, Sox head to Baltimore to play the Orioles Monday, 6:05 pm CST on CSN.

The Futures Market:
If I was an optimist, this might be a good time to buy...can't go much lower, right? RIGHT??!
