Sale Refuses to Beat Cleveland

September 15 vs. Cleveland Indians

Today's Game Rating:
Chalked up their 15th loss to Cleveland in a season for the first time since 1949.

Short Take: Chris Sale labored, but his offense did nothing to help him, only scoring one run in an ugly 7-1 defeat.

At this point in the season, it takes a true die hard to endure White Sox baseball. Fortunately, I wasn't one of the few who endured a rain delay of over four hours on Sunday afternoon at U.S. Cellular Field. With that said, though, I was sure to monitor the game on my phone because I just can't let go of baseball, despite my team having lost 90 games coming into Sunday's contest. Unfortunately for the few who spent their day and evening at the ballpark, they waited around for nothing but a 7-1 loss.

This one was over early. Matt Carson drove in a run in the second and homered in the fifth to single-handedly beat the Sox. Carson put his team up 2-0 and the Indians would only add on from there. Nick Swisher, whom many Sox fans loathe these days, hit not one but two home runs -- one from each side of the plate. Asdrubal Cabrera also homered and before Sox fans knew it, they were down 6-0. Chris Sale (11-13), whom the Indians just seem to own, is now 0-4 against the Tribe this season.

Cleveland's Zach McAllister (8-9) was the latest mediocre pitcher to own the Sox, holding them to one earned run and one hit over 6 2/3 innings. Josh Phegley was responsible for the lone Sox run, hitting an RBI single in the home half of the seventh. The final score in this nightmare was 7-1, but does it even really matter at this point?

The last time I wrote one of these TBGRs, the Sox were the hottest team in the American League, having won 14 of their last 20. Since that last Sunday in August, the Sox have won a grand total of two games. YUCK!

The homestand continues Monday night against the Minnesota Twins and with any luck, the Sox can manage to score more than one run, which has been the problem. Erik Johnson (0-2, 4.66 ERA) will start for the Sox and he'll be opposed by Minnesota's Liam Hendriks (1-2, 5.25 ERA). The first pitch will be at 7:10p CDT and the game will be broadcast on Comcast SportsNet.

Hawk and Stoney's Thumb Guide:
Stone Pony, I don't know how the hell I'm still alive. You know who has kept me going with stories from the good ol' days? YAZ!
