WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

AAAA

July 5 at Tampa Bay

Today's Game Rating:
1 Star
Sox got into a car chase toward the beginning but crashed and burned.

Short Take:   The Sox sent their AAAA team to Tampa Bay and lost 8-3.

Since the Sox are headed nowhere, they decided to DFA Hector Gimenez and send down Jordan Danks as July 4th presents. In their place, the Sox called up catcher Josh Phegley and outfielder Blake Tekotte. They were put into the lineup immediately against Tampa Bay on Friday night. As usual, the Sox had nothing on offense against Jeremy Hellickson. Hellickson stymied the Sox offense (which most pitchers can do) while Dylan Axelrod couldn't get a little league hitter out. He got bombed out of the game early as the Sox lost 8-3.

A series of disturbing stats have made their way toward the Sox this season. When Chris Sale stuck out 14 last month and lost, it was the first time in about 100 years that a White Sox pitcher has struck out 14 and lost, and just the fifth MLB pitcher since '07. Then, Jose Quintana and Dylan Axelrod each made 5 starts in the month of June and did not factor in the decision in any of those starts. It's the first time in MLB history that has been done. Something to be proud of??? Obviously, not. This Sox offense is the worst I've seen in the 33 years of being a Sox fan. I know many Sox fans have seen some bad teams in the 60's and 70's, but this has to rival any of those.

At least one thing would change this game, Axelrod would factor into the decision. Dylan pretty much just rolled garbage up to the plate while giving up nine hits over 1.2 innings before departing. Homers to Jose Molina and Kelly Johnson put Tampa up 5-0 after two innings. It was pretty much over at that point.

Ramon Troncoso continued to blow as he gave up a few more runs. David Purcey, replacing Jesse Crain, also pitched for the Sox and gave up a run.

A couple of positives, Josh Phegley had two RBI's for the Sox. He hit an RBI single in the fifth and a sac fly in the ninth. And Simon Castro (pronounced Simone) made his MLB debut and pitched three innings of scoreless ball. Castro was acquired in the Carlos Quentin deal at the end of 2011.

The Sox play again in Tampa on Saturday, July 6th at 6:15 p.m. Hard luck Chris Sale faces Matt Moore. The game will be on Fox.

WSI's
Hawk and Stoney's Thumb Guide:
Hawk: "Was there a game tonight? I was thinking about golfing tomorrow." Stone Pony: "If Dylan continues to throw the ball down the middle, he'll continue to have problems."
