WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

May 26 vs. Miami Marlins

Today's Game Rating:
5 Stars
One star for each run the Sox scored to win the ballgame.

Short Take:   Dylan Axelrod was less than dominating, but managed to pitch well enough to earn a victory against the lowly Marlins.

Coming off back-to-back walk-off victories against MLB's worst team, the Sox were in search of their first three-game sweep of the season. Despite the unseasonably cool temperatures on this unofficial beginning to summer weekend, the Sox drew over 25,000 fans, all eager to witness the first Sox sweep of the season. Though the starting pitching was mediocre at best, it didn't matter because the offense scored more runs than their opponent. Sox win 5-3!

The Sox got to Alex Sanabia (3-7) right off the bat, courtesy of a single by Alexei Ramirez and a two-run opposite-field dinger from the Donkey. The Sox were ahead 2-0, but not for long.

From the get-go, Dylan Axelrod (3-3) was fooling no one. Though he retired the first three hitters he saw, the second and third innings were anything but smooth sailing. Four singles in the second yielded two runs, tying the game at two a piece.

The game would stay knotted at two until the next half inning when the Sox plated two more. Doubles by Dayan Viciedo and Alejandro De Aza plated the next two runs for the South Siders, giving them a 4-2 lead. Axelrod only surrendered one more run, which came in the third, courtesy of an RBI ground out by Marcell Ozuna. The Sox added an insurance run in the eighth, thanks to De Aza's second double on the afternoon and an RBI single by Alex Rios.

Instrumental in keeping the Marlins at bay Sunday afternoon was the Sox bullpen. They retired the last 10 hitters the Marlins sent up to the plate, solidifying the victory and first series sweep of the season, and Addison Reed notched his 17th save of the season.

The Sox head try to add to their 5-1 record on this current homestand Monday night against their North Side rivals. The power and speed of 1060 W. Addison will be descending upon our ballpark and with them will be their fans. Steer clear of U.S. Cellular Field! Jose Quintana (3-1, 3.48 ERA) will face off against Jeff Samardzija (2-6, 3.25 ERA) on the South Side. The first pitch on this Memorial Day is set for 6:10p CDT and you can watch the home team's broadcast on WGN.
