Angels Want No Sale

May 17 at Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim of Orange County, California

Today's Game Rating:
4 Stars
Chris quieted, again, the big bombers in the Angels lineup.

Short Take:   For the second time in a week, Chris Sale dominated the Angels with his electric stuff.

I bet the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are having nightmares about Chris Sale. For the second time in less than a week, Sale absolutely dominated the stacked Angels lineup. Last Sunday, Sale was masterful throwing a complete game one-hitter at home against them. On Friday night, this time in Anaheim, Sale was again dominant. Chris (5-2) threw 7.2 innings of three-hit ball, allowing no runs to go with twelve strikeouts. Backed by a couple of homers, the Sox beat the dumbfounded Angels 3-0.

Angels starter C.J. Wilson didn't pitch bad, allowing only two runs over seven innings, but he just had no chance in this one. In the top of the first, the consistent Alex Rios took Wilson deep for his 10th homer of season to quickly make it 1-0 Sox. That's all Sale and the Sox pitching would need.

From there, for seven innings Sale mowed through the Angels lineup for the second time in five days like a bowler knocking all ten pins down for a strike.

The Sox did add some insurance runs late in the game. In the top of the seventh, the pleasant surprise that is Conor Gillaspie knocked in Dayan Viciedo from second with an RBI single to make it a 2-0 score.

Sale was definitely the headliner of this game, but in other news, what's up with Adam Dunn? And I mean this finally in a good way. Who thought that going to Minnesota could actually do anything good for someone in a White Sox uniform? Apparently, on the way up to Minnesota, Steven Stone said Adam Dunn told him he has a new stroke. Well, he wasn't kidding. Dunn has shortened his stroke, relying on more top hand as he looks like a new hitter. Hitting .137 a week ago, Dunn now has his average up to .169 after going 7 for his last 16 to go with four homers and eight RBI's over the last four games. That included a rocket solo homer off of Garrett Richards of the Angels on Friday night.

The Sox will try to win the series today, Saturday, May 18th at 3:05 p.m. Hector Santiago (1-2, 2.23 ERA) will face Joe Blanton (0-7, 6.46 ERA). The game can be seen on FOX.

Hawk and Stoney's Thumb Guide:
Hawk: "Thumbs up Wimpy. Dad gum right Sale is in Cy Young contention and Adam Dunn looks born again."
