WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Bon Voyage

October 2 at Cleveland

Today's Sox Crew:
The Sox will be taking a vacation from anymore work for the winter.

Short Take:   Jake pitched admirably, but the Sox lose 4-3 in extras.

For the Sox and all of the fans, the party is just about over for the 2012 season. The 11-0 shutout on Monday seems like an anomaly since the White Sox offense came back to Earth on Tuesday night. Granted, it was mostly the scrubs playing. Jake Peavy most likely pitched his last game in a White Sox uniform as he once again got little run support in a 4-3 extra-inning loss to the Indians on Tuesday night.

With Cleveland up 1-0 in the sixth, Orlando Hudson hit an RBI single to score DeWayne Wise to tie the game 1-1.

It would remain that way until the top of the ninth. Chris Perez for Cleveland walked Dan Johnson. Dayan Viciedo came up and hit a bomb off of Perez to put the Sox up 3-1.

Peavy came out in the bottom of the ninth and allowed a single to Michael Brantley to open the frame. Robin decided to let Peavy stay in the game and Jake was greeted with a two-run homer off the bat of Travis Hafner to tie the game at three.

The game would remain tied until the bottom of the twelfth inning. Matt Thornton allowed a one-out double to Lonnie Chisenhall. Nate Jones came in to relieve Thornton. Jones again ran into the problem of letting inherited runners score. After retiring his first batter, Jones gave up a single to light hitting Jason Donald that scored Chisenhall as the Indians won 4-3.

Aside from Jake, A.J., Youkilis, Myers, Liriano and possibly Floyd could be gone after this season. Even though the last month has been a horrid ending to the season, it was nice while it lasted. Sometimes it's fun to talk about what the Sox could do in the off-season, but right now with a bitter taste in our mouths, the disenchantment and late season failures didn't leave us with a whole lot.

If anyone would like, you can bid bon voyage to the 2012 season as the Sox play their last game tonight, 10/3, against Cleveland. The game starts at 6:05 and will be on CSN.

Jake Peavy

Jake was great for eight innings, but probably should have been swapped in the ninth.
