Another Garbage Effort Against a Garbage Team

August 17 at Kansas City Royals

Today's Sox Crew:
Off Duty
Once again, the Sox clock out early against the second-worst team in the AL, and fail to defeat them for the 6th time in 10 tries. That'll definitely win you the division, Sox.

Short Take: Konerko returns and hits a long ball, but aside from that, Luis Mendoza again was nearly untouchable against the Sox. Broken record, same old same old, etc.

Sigh. This act is getting mighty old. On the heels of yet another hair-pullingly frustrating loss to the hot mess that is the Kansas City Royals and their trainwreck of a pitching staff that miraculously finds out how to pitch whenever the Sox are in town, one has to wonder what in the world is going on. How in the world can this garbage team, with their abominable pitching, consistently lock down the Sox bats? That question should be a Wonder of the World, because there is no explanation as to why they lose so much to the goddamn Royals.

The sooner I recap this crap, the better. Luis "Cy" Mendoza took the hill for the Royals, against our own Cy Young contender Chris Sale. Of course, it was Sale who blinked first, as Lorenzo Cain hit a solo home run off Sale to give the Royals a 1-0 lead. However, Paulie had something to say about that in the fourth, as he took Mendoza deep to tie the game at 1. The next inning, Gordon Beckham, of all people, would give the Sox the 2-1 lead on a base hit that would score Alexei Ramirez. Beckham tried to stretch the hit into a double, but was gunned out by Jeff Francoeur. Nice job, Beckham, it's not like Francoeur has one of the best outfield arms in baseball or anything. Regardless, the Sox led 2-1.

The bottom of the 6th came, and Certified Card-Carrying Sox Killer Billy Butler came to the plate and showed why he earned that card by taking Sale deep to tie it up at 2. But the big blow came in the 7th, with two outs, Salvador Perez smashed a two-run double to give the Royals the 4-2 lead, which would ultimately be the final score of the game. Mendoza would pitch seven AWESOME innings, giving up two runs on four hits, earning his 4th career victory against the Sox. By the way, he has 12 wins in his career. So one-third of his wins have come at the hands of the Sox. ****ING AWESOME. Another crap pitcher turns to gold against us, but the Tigers or any other team would probably hang up 7-9 runs on him in 2-3 IP. Speaking of Tigers, they, of course, won against Baltimore, so the lead is shrunk to 1.5 games.

Things don't get any better for the Sox in the second game in this series, as Jake "Where In Tarnation Is my Run Support?" Peavy takes on Bruce "Cy" Chen. This one has all the makings of a 1-0 loss, given Chen's history against the Sox and Peavy's notorious lack of run support. Hopefully I'm wrong, and the Sox can drag Chen behind the woodshed and smash him around for about 10 runs, like they should be. Regardless, I don't care if they win 1-0, as long as they win.

KW Appreciates The Game:
"I think we need to nominate Mendoza for the "Against the White Sox Hall of Fame", he's looking quite promising."
