Royal Pains

August 7 vs Kansas City

Today's Sox Crew:
Backhoe Diggers
Raw sewage backed into the Sox dugout and a backhoe was needed to fix the issue.

Short Take:   Cy Chen and the Royals bullpen bite us again.

On Monday night, the Sox relied on a late inning rally to take out the pesky Royals. On Tuesday night, it was Jake Peavy vs Bruce Chen. On paper that was not a good matchup. Jake struggled in his last start against Kansas City and Bruce "Cy" Chen has always been a pain in our rump. Unfortunately, more of the same happened in this game. Jake pitched well for a while, but the Sox offense couldn't generate much as they lose 5-2 on Tuesday night.

In the bottom of the first, Gordon Beckham gave the Sox an early lead with a solo homer, his second in as many nights.

After KC tied it in the top of the sixth, the Sox answered in the bottom of the sixth. Gordon Beckham walked and advanced on a wild pitch. Gordo scored on a sharp RBI single by Adam Dunn. Raw sewage then backed into the Sox dugout from there.

The Royals went ahead in the top of the seventh. Singles by Jeff Francoeur, Eric Hosmer, Tony Abreu, and Alex Gordon plated two runs for Kansas City to put them ahead 3-2. That would be it for Peavy who went 6.2 innings in giving up three earned runs on seven hits, three walks and four strikeouts.

Billy Butler added a long two-run homer in the top of the eighth off of Sox reliever Nate Jones.

Greg Holland finished us off in the ninth as damn Cy Chen and the Royals bullpen get to us again, this time 5-2. We've struggled against them this year and the Sox are going to have to take care of both them and Detroit. Down the stretch, losing to garbage and under .500 teams could be the proverbial kiss of death for the Sox.

The Sox will try to win this three-game series tomorrow, August 8th at 7:10 p.m. Jose Quintana is scheduled to face fecal matter pitcher Jeremy Guthrie for the Royals. The guy's 3-12, hopefully we score about 15 runs off of them after tonight's letdown.

KW Appreciates The Game:
"I told Beckham that if he's gonna bat .228, at least hit some darn homers."
