WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Two Shades of Gray

July 31 at Minnesota

Today's Sox Crew:
Street Pavers
A.J. Pierzynski provided the final layer of asphalt on the street as the Sox drove to victory.

Short Take:   A.J. Pierzynski hit a 2-run bomb off of Jeff Gray that was the difference as the Sox win.

After dropping Monday night's game, and two in a row, the Sox were looking to rebound against Nick Blackburn and Minnesota. Francisco Liriano was making his White Sox debut and pitching for the first time against his former mates. Liriano didn't have his best stuff, but a late 2-run homer from A.J. Pierzynski took down his former team 4-3 on Tuesday night.

In the top of the second, Alex Rios hit a double to put a runner in scoring position. He eventually would score on a Dayan Viciedo sacrifice fly to put the Sox up 1-0.

It would remain that until the bottom of the sixth. After allowing an infield single, Liriano walked both Mauer and Willingham to get into trouble. RBI's from Justin Morneau and Danny Valencia would put Minnesota up 2-1. Liriano pitched six innings allowing those two runs and eight strikeouts but issued four walks.

The Sox offense was only able to muster two runs of offense off of Nick Crapburn and his 7.61 ERA. That second run for us came via an RBI single from Alexei Ramirez to score A.J.

Jeff Gray relieved Crapburn in the ninth. Alex Rios promptly greeted him with a single. A.J. then followed with a 2-run jack to put the Sox up 4-2.

Addison Reed allowed two hits and a run in the bottom of the ninth, but he survived to get his 17th save.

The Sox will try to win the series Wednesday, August 1st at 12:10 p.m. Jake Peavy will face Scott Diamond. The game can be seen on CSN.

WSI's
KW Appreciates The Game:
"I told A.J. to stop yanking my wanky and get out there and play."
