About Freaking Time

June 26 at Minnesota

Today's Sox Crew:
Nail Pullers
Gavin Floyd finally removed the nails the Twins have been pounding into his coffin.

Short Take:   Gavin Floyd beat the Twins for the first time in three years. Time to party!

Which Gavin Floyd was going to show up? Against the Twins, it's usually bad Gavin. Floyd entered Tuesday night's contest with a career 4-11 record against Minnesota. That includes an incredibly putrid 0-8 record with an 8.86 ERA in his last eight starts against the Twins. Well, for the first time in three long years, Gavin Floyd did indeed pick up his first win over Minnesota as he struck out nine in seven scoreless innings as the Sox beat the Twinkies 3-2. Floyd (6-7) has now pitched 13 1/3 scoreless innings overall, which is something our pitching staff badly needs.

We did have some breaks early on in the game. Sox killer, Denard Span, was left on second after opening the game with a double. In the bottom of the third, Span narrowly missed a homer by mere feet that was eventually called foul.

In the top of the fourth, Alex Rios did not miss a homer. After a one-out walk to Konerko, Alex launched a long two-run homer to left field off of Minnesota starter Liam Hendriks.

The Sox would pick up another run in the top of the seventh when Alexei Ramirez hit a run scoring single knocking in Alex Rios to put the Sox up 3-0.

Those would be the only runs the scuffling White Sox offense would score off of Liam Hendriks. Hendriks came into the game 0-4 with a 7.39 ERA and actually lowered his ERA to 6.82 after last night's game. The only hits the last two games have been from Alexei Ramirez, Alex Rios, and Kevin Youkilis. Adam Dunn has been horrid as his average has dropped to .208 while Paul Konerko has been in a funk as he seems to be fighting through a wrist issue.

Before winning, the Sox did their best to piss away the 3-0 lead in the ninth. Addison Reed came in to close the game. Justin Morneu drew a one-out walk. That just started the typical Twins garbage. Ryan Doumit hit a lazy little bloop double down the left field line to put two men on. Jamey Carroll followed that with an opposite field, bloop single that didn't even dent the grass to score two to make it a 3-2 game. However, Reed got Denard Span to ground out to end the game and preserve the victory for Floyd.

The final game of this series is a day game on Wednesday, June 27th at 12:10 p.m. Sox ace Chris Sale (8-2, 2.24 ERA) will face Nick Blackburn (4-4, 7.45 ERA). The game can be seen on WGN.

KW Appreciates The Game:
"Gavin and Youk will bring us a division championship."
