Fun While It Lasted

May 15 vs. Detroit

Today's Sox Crew:
Demolition Crew
Detroit's offense demolished Sox pitching to the tune of 10 runs.

Short Take:   An eighth inning pitching implosion does the Sox in as they lose 10-8 to Detroit.

Jake Peavy's been one of the best pitchers in baseball since the beginning of the season. That's been a bright spot for the Sox as Danks, Humber, Santiago, and the Sox offense has been very inconsistent in the early going. On Tuesday, Jake was hoping to help the Sox sweep this short two-game series with Detroit. After giving Jake a nice lead, it all fell apart. The Sox blew a six-run lead as Detroit's eight-run eighth inning does in the Sox as we lose 10-8.

The Sox scoring started early in the first inning. Following an A.J. Pierzynski RBI single, Gordon Beckham scored on a Detroit error to put us up 2-0.

Paul Konerko kept it going in the bottom of the third with a solo homer off of Detroit starter Max Scherzer. Suddenly streaking Dayan Viciedo included a two-run single to make it a 4-0 game.

Peavy was given his biggest lead of the game in the fifth inning when A.J. Pierzynski hit a two-run single, scoring Dunn and Konerko to put the Sox up 6-0. A.J. was a true stud, going 5-5 with 2 runs and 3 RBI's on the day.

Things were looking good, but it wouldn't last. In the top of the sixth, Andy Dirks singled right before Miguel Cabrera hit a monster home run to left field to pull Detroit within four at 6-2. After allowing two more base runners, new Sox killer Ryan Raburn came up. Raburn hit a three-run jack to left center to suddenly make it a 6-5 game. Falling apart, Will Ohman came in to relieve Peavy. If Robin wanted to comfort Sox fans, bringing in Ohman isn't a way to do that.

Ohman first proceeded to hit Delmon Young. Austin Jackson then came up and took Ohman deep to center for a two-run bomb. The once healthy lead the Sox had was long gone with the score 8-6 Detroit.

Ryan Raburn and Jahonny Peralta continued the scoring with run-scoring singles in the seventh off of Nate Jones to up the Tigers up 10-6.

The Sox showed some fight in the bottom of the ninth. A.J. Pierzynski doubled off of Jose Valverde, after Konerko singled. Octavio Dotel relieved Valverde, who left with an injury. Alex Rios loaded the bases after he drew a walk. Alexei Ramirez then delivered a clutch two-run double to make it 10-8. Dayan Viciedo was now up and almost tied the game off of Dotel by hitting a long fly ball to right field that fell just short of the fence. Oh well, it was at least a nice fight after that disastrous sixth inning.

The Sox now travel to LAAAA for another weird two-game series against the Angels on Wednesday, May 16th. Gavin Floyd (3-3, 2.53 ERA) will face Jerome Williams (3-1, 4.19 ERA). The game starts at 9:05 p.m. CST and can be seen on CSN+.

KW Appreciates The Game:
"Our veterans are hitting, just giving time for our youngsters to heat up."
