WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Nice to have a laugher, huh?

May 9 at Cleveland

Today's Sox Crew:
Master plumbers
The Sox sprung a leak the first five games of this road trip, but with the help of Peavy and Dunn, new pipes have been installed.

Short Take: Adam Dunn homers and Jake Peavy cruises as the White Sox win big and gain a series split in Cleveland.

So, which White Sox player has the lead in the race for American League Comeback Player of the Year: Adam Dunn or Jake Peavy? Both men continued to earn their substantial paychecks Wednesday as Dunn connected for his 10th home run of the season and Peavy fired seven strong innings as the Sox defeated the Cleveland Indians 8-1.

Dunn gave Peavy all the runs he would need in the top of the first inning when he got a hanging breaking ball from Cleveland starter Jeanmar Gomez (2-2) and knocked it over the wall in right field for a two-run homer. Dunn had only 11 home runs all of last season. At the rate heís going, heíll surpass that total by the end of the next homestand.

The offense didnít stop there. The Sox exploded for six runs in the top of the fourth inning to take what would be an insurmountable 8-0 lead. The South Siders sent 10 men to the plate and collected five singles and two walks during the rally. A.J. Pierzynski, Alexei Ramirez and Eduardo Escobar had RBI hits. Alejandro De Aza added a two-run single, and Gordon Beckham capped things off with a sacrifice fly.

After that, it was all Peavy (4-1). The right-hander went seven innings, allowing one run on seven hits. He struck out five and didnít allow a single Indians baserunner to reach third base until the seventh inning. Over his last five starts, Peavy has posted a 1.36 ERA. For the year, heís allowed only 35 hits and seven walks over 52 1/3 innings pitched. That will pencil out to a 0.80 WHIP to go along with a 1.89 season ERA. Those are ace numbers right there.

Will Ohman and Nate Jones each worked a scoreless inning of relief to mop up, and the Sox rallied to split the four-game set in Cleveland after dropping both ends of a doubleheader on Monday. Now, weíll see if the Sox (15-17) can do something about their crappy 5-9 home record. After an off day Thursday, they return home to host the Kansas City Royals Friday night. Right-hander Gavin Floyd (2-3, 3.03 ERA) is scheduled to pitch for the Sox. Heíll be opposed by Kansas City right-hander Felipe Paulino (1-0, 0.00 ERA). The game begins at 7:10 and will air on Comcast SportsNet.

KW Appreciates The Game:
And you guys thought I was an idiot for acquiring Peavy and Dunn. **** all of you!
