West Coast Swing In Full Swing As Sox Coast

April 20 at Seattle Mariners

Today's Sox Crew:
Home Makeover Crew
Chris Sale weakened the foundation with his 11-strikeout effort, and Foreman Dunn finished the job with his newfound jackhammer, turning the pitcher-friendly Safeco Field into a hitter's paradise.

Short Take: Dunn's offensive explosion in the Emerald City fuels the Sox past the Mariners.

After a weak-sauce effort in their first homestand of the season (particularly against that crappy orange team the Sox always suck against), the Sox headed to the West Coast to take on the Seattle Mariners in the land of Starbucks, the Space Needle, grunge music, and that one Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan movie. The first game of this three-game series was what you would call a "success", as the Sox got some monster offense from Adam Dunn en route to a 7-3 victory.

The Sox wasted no time, as Alejandro De Awesome ( doublem23) greeted Mariner starter Hector Noesi with a base hit and stole second. Sox Public Enemy #1a Brent Morel would draw a walk, and Dunn would, for the second time in a week, hit an opposite-field double to drive in De Aza and move Morel to third. Morel would be cashed in on an Alex Rios sac fly, to put the Sox ahead 2-0.

The Sox broke it open in the second as Sox Public Enemy #1b Gordon Beckham drove a double. Kid's been hitting the ball hard lately, give him that. De Aza would then place a beauty of a bunt down the third-base grass that Mariners third baseman Alex Liddi was forced to put in his back pocket. Morel would cash in Beckham with a base hit to right, allowing De Aza to take third, leaving runners at the corners for Dunn. Big Donkey would end Noesi's night by crushing a three-run bomb. That won't look good on Noesi's ERA, but it looks damn beautiful on Dunn's line. The Sox would lead 6-0 after one and a half innings of play. Dunn would put the cherry on top of his ice cream sundae of glorious offensive production by smacking a solo shot off Mariner reliever Hisashi Iwakuma in the eighth inning to cap the scoring for the South Siders. Five RBIs, Adam?'re starting to raise expectations!

Sox starter Chris Sale was quality today, earning his second win of the season by going 6.1 innings, allowing 3 ER, 7 hits, and allowing three walks. It would be a lower-end quality start, but he also struck out 11 Mariner batters, the most strikeouts by a Sox starter in this young season. Matt Thornton, Jesse Crain, and Hector Santiago each pitched scoreless outings for the Sox, although Thornton did allow Sale's baserunner to score.

With the win, the Sox improve to 7-6, 4-2 on the road. The Sox and Mariners play the second game of this series at 3:05 pm tomorrow afternoon. Philip Humber takes the mound for the Sox, going against some guy named Blake Beavan. That just sounds like a guy that would shut down the Sox, doesn't it? It's kinda like "Brian Dinkleman", "Kason Gabbard" and other players with goofy names that like to beat down the Sox, much to their frustration. Goofy names aside, just win, baby.

Hehe...Dinkleman...*shakes head*

KW Appreciates The Game:
"I appreciate that Adam Dunn learned how to hit a baseball this offseason."
