Floyd Flops

April 19 vs. Baltimore

Today's Sox Crew:
Inexperienced Welders
Floyd burned down the family room, but Dunn, Konerko and Rios tried to rebuild it.

Short Take:   Floyd struggles as Sox drop finale

Well, you can't win them all, I guess. At least not in baseball. Although that would be awesome if you could.

The Sox dropped the finale to the Orioles this afternoon. Gavin Floyd struggled a little bit this afternoon, which he hasn't really done in his career versus the Orioles. In fact, Floyd is usually incredibly good against this team. But he struggled today, and the offense couldn't pick him up.

But Sox fans have come to expect that Floyd isn't at his finest in April and May. In April, he has a 5.54 career ERA with a 12-11 record after today's loss. In May, he has a 5.11 ERA and a 9-12 record. So Floyd isn't stellar.

The offense almost got Floyd off the hook. They staged a bit of a comeback in the ninth, but a called third strike to Alex Rios ended the rally, with the Orioles winning 5-3.

In general, the offense was not on top of things. As a team, they struck out 16 times and left 11 on base. Which is highly unimpressive. Brent Lillibridge, Rios and Dayan Viciedo each struck out three times. Although Rios at least got two hits while the other two went 0-fer. Paul Konerko continued on his hot streak, going 2-for-3 with a walk.

The Sox head to Seattle to face the Mariners this weekend. Chris Sale is facing Hector Noesi at 9:10 tomorrow night. Ah yes...the ever wonderful West Coast games. The Mariners have a 7-6 record at the time of publication, so it's possible that the Sox could pull out a win. Here's hoping this is true.

KW Appreciates The Game:
"I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't leave that many people on base next time."
