Split That Doubleheader!

September 20 at Indians

Levels Finished:
Game One: 2; Game Two: 4
Game One, they didn't look good and didn't dodge much with Mediocre Gavin. Game Two, they looked better, mainly because of Beckham.

Short Take:   Sox split doubleheader against Cleveland

The White Sox are in Cleveland for four games in three days. Today was a split doubleheader in which the sox and the Indians, well, split. The Sox lost Game One 4-3 and won Game Two 5-4.

Mediocre Gavin showed up in Game One. Floyd lasted 6.2 innings, giving up four runs on seven hits. He struck out seven, but he also gave up three home runs. Not a good outing there, Gavin. Will Ohman came on to pitch the last 1.1 innings, and he did so without allowing a hit or a walk.

The Sox looked a little lackluster in Game One. Alex Rios and Adam Dunn each picked up two hits while Alexei Ramirez, AJ Pierzynski, and Alejandro De Aza each picked up one hit. Yes, you read that correctly. Rios and Dunn each had two hits. I know, I was a little shocked too. Dunn had an RBI, and De Aza had two, but that wasn't enough to overpower Cleveland, as they won 4-3.

Rookie Dylan Axelrod didn't have his good stuff. He lasted 4.2 innings, giving up four runs on seven hits and four walks. He struck out three before being pulled for Josh Kinney. Kinney gave up a hit in 1.0 innings pitched and was replaced by Matt Thornton. Thornton pitched 1.1 innings, only walking two. He picked up the win after the Sox scored another run. Jesse Crain pitched 0.1 innings, striking out one. Chris Sale picked up the save, pitching 1.2 innings and only allowing one hit.

The offense was much better in the second game. The Sox picked up ten hits, three of which were doubles by Gordon Beckham. Yes, he went 3-for-3 with three doubles. De Aza and Omar Vizquel each had two hits while Juan Pierre, Ramirez, and Tyler Flowers each picked up on hit, as the Sox beat the Indians, 5-4.

The Sox continue their strive for second place tomorrow night when Mark Buehrle faces Ubaldo Jimenez. This will be Buehrle's 30th start of the season, and this is the 11th straight year he has started at least 30 games. If he lasts 7.2 innings, it will be the 11th straight season he has pitched at least 200 innings. Give 'em hell, Mark!
